In this blog, I shall be talking about the immersion of Ganpati idol in water- Its need and importance. 

So till now we have read about bringing the statue at home and praying. We have also discussed rituals to follow and some food recipes which are relished by Bappa.

After worshiping God for 10 days, visarjan is  done. It can be done after 1 ½ days, 3 days, 5 days, 7 days and 9 days too. You can do so as per your convenience. 

I was very lucky this year to have Bappa at my place for 10 full days. On 10th day, after lunch, we immersed the statue in water in the park of the society where we live. Since it was made of mud, it got dissolved quickly and we poured this mud water in all the plants. 

It is very hurtful to let Bappa go after being with him for 10 days. But let me explain the need for this ritual. Again number of theories are attached with it.

 First and foremost, it is considered that God arrived on earth as a guest and He has to go back to his home and parents. So, we have to let them go and make the journey easy for them. God travels via water so the idol is immersed in water.

Secondly, the entire theory of Ganpati festival is to teach us the circle of life. everything that is born, lives, has to end. We have spent good time with him, shared our problems and worries, it had been more like a get together with people coming up to seek blessings, but the end has to teach us not to get too attached. It teaches us that everything has to come to an end and we must be able to accept it. 

Thirdly, it is believed that God came to our home to absorb all negativity. The God itself is not going anywhere. The idol is going, the god and his blessings will stay with us forever. But the statue which has absorbed all our worries has to be immersed in water.

So, hope that you understand the importance of immersion of idol no matter how heavy the heart becomes. This act makes us stronger for the world. 

Also, if we do not immerse this year's idol, how will we wait for Him again next year?
