Thiruvananthapuram is the capital of Kerala. The city lies on them Malabar coast. The city's name was officially in changed from Trivandrum to Thiruvananthapuram in 1991. Thiruvananthapuram means 'Adobe of lord Anantha'. Ananda is a snake on which lord Padmanabha reclines in the Sri padmanabhaswamy temple a landmark of the city.

Thiruvananthapuram is an ancient city. However, the rise of modern Thiruvananthapuram begin during the region of maharaja Marthanda varma, who founded the princely state of Travancore. City became the capital of Travancore. 

Interesting places : 

👉 Anchuthengu fort - The Anchuthengu fort use built by the English East India company. The photos located about 36 km from Thiruvananthapuram. 

👉 Thiruvananthapuram observatory - the observatory was built in 1837 and is one of the oldest observatories in India. From here, one has a very good view of the city. 

👉 Zoological park - the Zoological park Thiruvananthapuram is one of the oldest zoo in India a large variety of trees and animals such as Indian rhino and the Asiatic lion are found here. 

👉 Kovalam beach - the Kovalam beach is situated about 16 km from Thiruvananthapuram it is a very popular tourist destination. 

The people of Thiruvananthapuram mainly speaks Malayalam other languages such as Hindi, English in Tamil or also widely understood the popular dishes here are appam (a soft pancake made from fermented rice flour), puttu (steam cake made from rice flour), Kappa (tapioca), meen (fish curry). The traditional dresses for the men is mundu and shirt and for the women, it is the neriathu saree ( saree with golden zari border).

Kerala has a rich cultural heritage.kalarippayattu martial art form from Kerala and possibly one of the oldest fighting  systems in existence.and kathakali the classical dance drama of Kerala the performance has a unique combination of dance acting literature music and painting. Raja Ravi Varma greatest Indian painters was from Travancore. 

The grand feast called onasadya, snake boat race, under the floor decoration called poo kolam or some enchanting features of the Onam festival.

Onam,the harvest festival,is one of the most important festivals in Kerala. Christmas,Eid and other festivals of India are also celebrated with a lot of enthusiasm.

Thiruvananthapuram does not experience distinct seasons as there is not much difference in temperature between summer and winter. It is one of the first Indian cities to get a rainfall from the Southwest monsoon every year. 

Institutions located in Thiruvananthapuram or some famous institutions such as Vikram Sarabhai space centre VSSC. Establishment of an IT information technology park named techno park has placed Thiruvananthapuram on the IT map of India.
