Founded by Gautama Buddha also known as Shakyamuni or Tathagata known originally as Siddhartha .

Gautama Buddha :-

He was born in 563 BC Lumbini or Vaisakha Purnima day in kshatriya clan . His father Suddhodhana was the Saka ruler , his mother Mahamaya died after 7 days of his birth so he was brought by stepmother Gautami . Married at 16 to Yashodhara enjoyed the married life for 13 years and had a son named Rahul .  

Great renunciation MAHABHINISHKRAMANA  at the age of the 29 years after witnessing four scenes in a sequence old man , sick man , dead body and an ascetic . 

Nirvana or Enlightment  at 35 years of age at uruvella under a pipal tree on the banks of Niranjan river on 49th day of meditation . First sermon or dharmachakra pravartana at sarnath where his five disciples had settled. 

Death at the age of 80 years in 483 BC at Kusinagar in UP in the Malla republic . 

• TEACHINGS OF BUDDHA :-

(a)  The world is full of sorrows .

(b) The cause of sorrow is desire.

(c ) If desires are conquered all sorrows can be removed .

(d) This can be achieved by following the 8 fold path .

(e) Right livelihood .

(f) Right effort .

(g) Right mindfulness .

• CODE OF CONDUCT :-

(a) Do not covet the property of others .

(b) Do not commit violence .

(c ) Do not use intoxicants .

(d) Do not speak a lie .

(e) Do not indulge in corrupt practices .

• BELIEF IN NIRVANA :-

(a) Also known as moksha or salvation . It refers to a belief in the concept of ultimate bliss , whereby the person gets freedom from the cycle of birth and death 

   BUDDHIST  SANGHA 

IT CONSISTED OF MONKS  AND NUNS WHO ACTED AS THE TORCH OF THE DHAMMA . THE WORSHIPPERS WERE CALLED MONKS .

• SECTS OF BUDDHISM :-

(a) Vajrayana  Its followers believed that salvation could be attained by magical power , which they called vajra .

(b) The chief divinity of the sect is Taras . Bengal and Bihar was the main area pf concentration .
