Here comes another virus. Oh wait there are more than 100 such virus already existing in nature which cause human diseases other than the corona virus.

Here it is the Zika 🦠 virus. Recently in Kerela, Thiruvananthapuram Zika virus was detected from a 24 year pregnant women. 

The women presented with headache and red spots on her body. She has delivered a healthy baby and she is stable.

Quite a few of the health workers are exposed now to the Zika virus.

Zika virus spreads through aedes mosquito bite which also spreads dengue. Zika is transferable throught sex and also to the fetus from the mother. It might also be transferable through blood.

The symptoms of Zika virus may range from no symptoms, to mild symptoms to having fever, headache , joint ache, muscle ache. While death from Zika virus is rarely rare. 

The cause of concern in a case of Zika is the fact that it might cause teratogenic affect on the fetus( transferred from mother) and also a disease called as guillain- bare syndrome.

There is currently no vaccine to protect from Zika virus. The only way is to protect yourself from those nasty mosquito bites. Use mosquito repellent or those safetly nets.making sure that there are no stagnant water around' the house. Making sure there are no breeding places for these mosquitoes. Also to use protection while having sex.

According to travel history, symptoms , the blood can given for testing the virus. In India the samples are sent to national institute of virology in pune, the basically do a test called PCR , which confirms the presence of virus in the blood.

What to do when you have Zika virus?

First thing not to panic. And donot self medicate. Always consult a doctor.

Usually the viruses have no specific treatment, they are treated symptomatically . The fever and joint ache may be treated with acetaminophen or paracetamol. And to keep hydrating ourselves.

Kerala has now reported 14 confirmed cases and has been put on high alert. 

There are many virus that exist and these will continue to cause diseases till the humanity exist. We neednot panic . 

Having said that coronovirus which I think it's genes are manipulated. Still continue to exist and 3rd wave may come sooner than expected seeing how everyone is just flocking around.

Our safety is in our hands first. Remeber to wear mask, vaccinate yourself and your family , sanitize your hands and avoid crowded places.
