Hi guys, Welcome to my blog. In this blog I want to share few important points on MS Excel. Most of the people may have learned MS Excel in school if they have computer class. In school days, it may be fun doing all the calculations and entering some data in the excel sheet but it is one of the demanding job oriented skill at present.

What is Microsoft Excel or MS Excel?

Microsoft Excel is a spread sheet editor where we can enter data, perform calculations, create necessary tables and graphs. It was launched by Microsoft corporation in 1985.

When we open excel and create a blank book we will see tabs like File, Home, Insert, Page layout, Formulas, Data, View,  Review, Developer, and Help. Each tab is divided into groups.

The spreadsheet is divided into rows and columns. Rows are represented by numericals whereas Columns by alphabets.

The intersection of a row and column is called a cell. A cell is said to be active when we can edit, enter the data. When the cell is active that particular cell reference is displayed in Name box.

The shortcut for editing a cell is ‘F2’

For every spreadsheet in a workbook we have total 1048576 rows and 16384 columns.

In the bottom section we can add as many sheets we can to workbook by pressing ‘+’ symbol.

A workbook can be a combination of one or more spreadsheets. We can zoom the sheet by adjusting the zoom bar.

File Tab:

From file tab, we can create new blank book, access inbuilt templates, and sample tutorials. we have several options such as new, close, open, print, save, save as etc.,. In file tab, we have “Options” option from that we can change the language settings, can access advanced settings, customize the ribbon and can add extra tools to quick access tool bar.

Shortcut for saving a file is ‘Ctrl+S’

Home Tab

In home tab we have several groups let see about it one by one.

In clipboard group we have copy, cut, paste, and format painter.

Cut: Removes the selected portion of data. Later we can paste anywhere in the sheet.

Shortcut for cut is ‘Ctrl+X’

Copy: With the help of this option we can duplicate the selected part of original content.

Shortcut is ‘Ctrl+C’

Paste: Whatever we cut or copy from the selected portion of data we can paste it wherever we want.

shortcut for paste is ‘Ctrl+V’

Format Painter: With this option we can add the font to one or multiple cells just by clicking that particular cell containing the font. By just clicking the twice on the cell having the font we can apply it to multiple cells.

Font applied to cells by using format painter
Data or Content is added to the clipboard

Note: We can add the cut or copied content to clipboard and it can be pasted wherever we want on the spreadsheet.

I want to share more about different tabs, definitions, and shortcuts in upcoming blogs

To be continued…

Hope my readers enjoyed the blog.

Thanks for reading!!!
