What is the meaning of privileged person ?
In the era where we see India shifting from communism to capitalism the word ‘privileged’ is being heard so much. The literal meaning of word privilege shown by google is a ‘special right or advantage that only one person or group has’. This definition is fine but it's half. Privilege is a special right or power in respect of someone or something or over someone or something. It is always relevant to something.
We generally feel people in higher economy class are called privileged but they also been heard saying ‘we are not privileged to afford this or that’ so means someone who is more wealthy is privileged for them
Privilege also comes through power. Power again something which is useful only if you can use it properly. Many people who are in power positions can not use their power due to various reasons like their own decisiveness or fear of the system. Many powerful people just don't use it because they don't want to. We don't see this kind of people as privileged one, because they don't use special rights.
In a parallel world a person living in villages who earns on his own by farming or dairy lives king size life. They are only dependent on nature, they are happy and stress free. They decides their own rules and speaks up for something wrong.Sometimes that people seem more privileged as they can live by their wish
In times of Covid suddenly all the definitions of wealth got a new vision. Now a person with good immunity and healthy body is a privileged one. Many millionaires failed to save loved ones as they had money but not all the money can buy immunity or power to fight against Covid infection in lungs. In an oxygen emergency no money helped arrangement of it because you can't buy which is not available.
The last lockdown also highlighted one thing, the importance of family. How people returned to their hometown and from loner life to be with parents is eyeopener. Having own space to live and to grow is considered as privilege in millennial but tough time shows having family by your side is real privilege
Money can buy happiness, money can solve problems and it does not always make you privileged. I believe if money used to give privilege to society or to grow people around you makes you privileged. Living in society and not caring for it never takes you anywhere because privilege is always in relevance of something and most of the time it's life around you.
