Before seeking revenge, you should consider whether it is worthwhile, the wise old man responded. You could feel better temporarily if you exact revenge, but it won't make you truly happy.

After giving it some thinking, the young guy questioned, "But what if I don't seek retribution? Will they not perceive me as weak?

True strength comes from inside, the sagely old man retorted. Forgiving someone takes a greater strength than getting even. You will experience true happiness if you can find it in your heart to pardon those who have harmed you.

After giving it some thought, the young man thanked the experienced elder for his counsel. He felt much better as he left the village than when he had arrived.
 Moral: Forgiveness is a sign of true strength and courage. It takes more courage to forgive than it does to seek revenge.
