What If Covid 19 Lockdown Happened In The 1990S?

The key to creativity is to let the mind wander.” A lesser-known fact but one that can truly let you be you.

The year 2020 was surely one of the grey periods that forced the people to stay locked behind the doors. With no exposure to the outside world, the period was exhaustive and one of the times that made people feel depressed.

But as said, “Nothing is permanent in this temporary world.”, Lockdown was an exceptional period. Amid the growing crisis of COVID 19, some people thought deeply and engaged their minds to do creative things most productively.

From the teachers who were deeply engaged in imparting value education to students online to art enthusiasts who tried to inject positivity with the help of creative workshops, creativity was the foundation of happiness.

But have you ever thought, what if this happened around the 1990s? What would be the situation then? Wondering how Lockdown can be creative, then?

Well, not really, but let us look at some of the situations that might have turned before us.

  • No Internet. The Internet was sure not a widespread thing. So to know about the whole world, the only option would be the TV news.
  • NO OTT. Shocked! I guess not. Since the OTT platforms are the ones that gained name and fame in the last 2-3 years, we are sure thinking of binge-watching the series and movies would have been impossible.
  • Work From Home, Not Really. Indeed if all this happened in the 1990s, then the Lockdown would have been an extended leave for white-collar employees.
  • No Smartphones mean No video calls. Trust me, most of us would be waiting for the night hours to call on the landline and connect with family sitting far.
  • Online Education, was that even a thing. Students today have the privilege to learn online and acquire knowledge, but the 1990s would mean a complete leave with no school, no exam, and not even projects.
  • Food Delivery was not a choice. Do you recall home foo delivery apps when young? Well, it was not prevalent or even existing.
  • Books and people would be true friends. No connection with the modes of Facebook, WhatsApp, or any such app to others would have bought you close to your family. The book would be the best friends ever.

Certainly, the situation might have been even worse due to the lack of technological know-how. A lockdown in the 1990s could have been even worse in various aspects than today.

So, just do your part “ Stay Home, Stay Safe, Wear Mask, Maintain distance.”
