Do you love fairytales? Indeed, it is one of the most amazing things that everyone adored as kids. The beautiful happy ending, the stories of prince and princess, and the tale of a life where everything ends up to be good and happy.
But just take a look deeper. Are those the actual stories, or was there a flipside that we ignored? Let us have a quick peek at the stories and see any flipside or dark side.
The Beauty And The Beast
The Side Known: The eternal love story that broke all the barriers of physical appearance and made Belle fall in love with a hideous-looking beast, the story is beautiful. What is even more attractive is the rose in the glass taken from the story by people today as a symbol of love. It sounds like a perfect love story, isn’t it?
The Side Hidden: The beautiful woman who started loving the demon was caged in the palace. She had no freedom to sing or dance, or do anything as per her will. Given up my father, Beauty never opposed. In the end, she falls for her captivator. So what do you see, a true love story or a love story based on circumstances?
The Little Mermaid
The side Known: Ariel, the daughter of the king of Atlantica, had everything she can ever think of. Singing, playing, and chasing her happiness, Ariel has the most trusted friends to stand by her. Finally, she sees the love of Eric, a human. To meet the love of her life, she decided to give up her fins and music to stay on the land. Their love ends with a beautiful marriage attended by humans and merpeople.
The Side Hidden: Ariel is the most lively character ever. Running, chasing, singing, and marrying around, she spent her life with high enjoyment. But when she fell in love, everything changed. She gave up her true self to be with the man she loved. Though this is beautiful, leaving the true identity aside is somewhat linked to the doomed societal expectations from a girl.
The Rapunzel
The Side Known: A witch, the kingdom, a beautiful princess, and a prince. Sounds familiar. The story is again similar to most of the love stories. The princess was abducted by a witch the day she was born for her hair. The hairs that make her look young and beautiful. Locked in a clock tower and guarded by a dragon, Rapunzel had everything she needed. She craved to go out until the day a prince arrived to make her wish true. He rescued Rapunzel and killed the witch for good. And they lived happily ever after.
The Side Hidden: Do you see any other side of the story? Well, there is one. A girl who was taken away from her family and kept alone for her teenage life was depicted to be happy. There is nothing wrong, but evidently, it is not correct. Living in solitary just to accomplish the wishes of one who is powerful is one of the biggest drawbacks in society. Following what is said, without question, is a symbol of suppression.
There are still a few more such stories that point towards the same. Let us see the same in the next article.
