Respect: Know What It Actually Mean?

Well, I recently came across someone who forced me to think about the concept of respect.  This might sound weird but for a moment I felt is this really the only way you can show respect to elders and others?

I don't think so. But before I share the incident, let us take a quick peek at what is RESPECT?

Concept of Respect

The simple expression of showing a positive attitude and feeling towards someone and making them feel acknowledged for their position or insight is respect. It is the feeling of trust and wellbeing that you offer to someone for the person they are. It is the feeling of admiring and valuing someone for what they are. In short, it is the most appropriate way of treating and honoring others.

Agreed?

I guess that sums almost everything that we consider to respect others.

Now, let me share the incident.

I met a person who is highly educated and a renowned personality. While communicating, he pointed out some of the facts that amazed all sitting over there.  It took me a couple of seconds to actually decipher the message and reach the point that was made out. According to the statement, if you are in a group with people, a female should keep her head down with a β€˜pallu’ else she is disrespecting everyone. Additionally, wearing western outfits is utter disrespect to everyone, even her family. Apart, he moved ahead stating if a lady eats before her better half having lunch-dinner, she is disrespecting everyone again.

I was taken by shock. I know these things are still prevailing in society, but commenting the same when you are highly educated, was not actually expected. It took me a few moments to contemplate and reach a conclusion.

You must be wondering why I raised this today?

Time is changing and society needs to change with it. Though changing the customs is not easy, but talking about the change is important. Making people understand what actually respect is linked to and how should they perceive it is important.

Understanding the fact that respect is how you dress or what you dress, but respect is linked to how you connect and talk with others is equally important. Things do not change in one day but without efforts things will never change.

So, talk about it and ask people to think about it. A small step can bring in big change.

Hope to connect with the message. Till then keep redaing, keep growing, keep having fun!
