Even after being in the 21st century, the inequality between men and women is still widespread. Be it in the personal spaces or in the professional work environment, the instances of discrimination and difference can easily be identified.
People talk about the rule to promote equality and various bills passed by the government focusing on punishing all those who attempt to follow the practice of discrimination and inequality.
But is this enough? Can we actually avoid all this by just drafting rules on a piece of paper?
In fact, NOT. until the ideology is not enforced on the general public, expecting a minute change is just wothless. So how can you expect to start the change?
Think about it, the normal roles in the organization are Chairman, Policeman, Businessman, Salesman, Craftsman, Counsilman, Fireman, Congressman, Mailman, Stuntsman, and others.
What do you see here?
Exactly the point. All the roles denote one thing that these roles are linked to a specific gender which is MALE. Do you think a woman cannot handle these positions? Or are there no women in this world currently employed in these positions?
Indeed, the fact is these positions are open for both genders. So the need is to change the titles to a gender-neutral position. The idea is simply to replace the word man with the person. Like Chairperson, Policeperson, Mailperson, Congressperson, councilperson, Craftsperson, Salesperson, Fireperson, Stuntsspersson, Businessperson, and so on.
Sounds great right?
What is the benefit of replacing this?
The simplest would be a company doing so is silently promoting the notion of equality rather than creating banners and advertisements to make themselves present as an equitable place to work. A company that suggests that the work environment is based on the concept of equality by bringing on such small changes has the unsaid potential of bringing in new business silently and quickly.
So, as a start, to bring a change in the patriarchal society, where the workplace is still struggling to offer a place for quality and equity, a small step like this can build a path for a better future in the times to come.
A role offered should not be based on gender but on quality and skills. This is going to profit the company far better than just the individual.
So, if you are moving towards bringing in the change that the world adores and remember, start with the simple one, just change the titles to gender-neutral and see the change.
