Music is the music heard an developed in India since ancient times. This music also begin with the Vedic period. The original source of this music is believed to be the Vedas In Hindu tradition, it is believed that Brahma gifte music to Narada Muni.
Pandit Sharangdev's book "Sangeet Ratnakar" refers to Indian music as "Geetam, Vadayam and. Singing instrumental playing and dancing; Sangeet is considered to consist of the three arts. Though the three are independent arts, they are still interchangeable. Two types of Indian music are prevalent; first, Carnatic music, which is prevalent in the southern states, and Hindustani music, popular in the rest of India. Music has been of great importance in all Indian civilizations. Music is ancient in religious and social traditions. It has been practiced since time immemorial. Music in this form is considered to be the soul of Indian culture. In Vedic period, spiritual music was called Margie and folk music was called 'Deshi'. Later on it came to be seen as classical and folk music. .
Most of these twelve swaras are used in contemporary Indian classical music. Indian speech has been proven since ancient times. On the basis of this, Bharata had performed 22 women, which is the specialty of Indian classical music.
In the Vedic period, according to the Vedic Saptak or Samagam of that time, the mantras of the Samaveda were chanted using seven vowels. According to the Guru-Shishya tradition, the disciple received the knowledge of the Vedas only orally from the Guru and the possibility of any change in them was forbidden. Thus in ancient times the Vedas and music lost their original form due to the absence of any written form.

There are two major systems of Indian classical music -
Hindustani music - which became popular in North India. Carnatic music - which became popular in South India.
Hindustani music flourished under the Mughal emperors and Carnatic music flourished in the temples of the south. That is why bhakti rasa is found more in South Indian creations and in rasa Hindustani music.
Classical music includes Thumri, * Tappa ,Hori, Dadra, Kajari, Chaiti etc.
