When we think of cyborgs the image that comes to our mind is of humans who look like robots just as in the cover picture. Human who have bodies of steel with all kinds of instruments attached . Humans with immense power and strength just as the cyborg character in the movie Justice League.
This future may not be that far as everyone thinks , i believe we in some sense are alreday Cyborgs. People who cannot see clearly have glasses on them . People who cannot hear properly have hearing aids on . And most importantly we alreday have machines we are connected to , our MOBILE!!!
Our dependance on mobiles has alreday made us cyborgs. How many of us, today feel comfortable without these handheld gadgest? Every morning we wake up the first thing we check is our mobile . Mobile has become an extension of our own self. Today we are not only present physically but also virtually on the net. Things that would be considered impossible few decades ago can easily be done through one click on your mobile. We can speak with anyone on the planet, chat with anyone , see them via video calls , know their location etc . We can even control our cars and home appliances using mobiles . This is just the beginning.
Today mobiles are an external handheld device . May be few years later they will be inbuilt in our bodies. Maybe there will be chips in our bodies which do the same function as our mobiles do.
The future may not be as far as some of us may have thought. As is discussed in one of Yuval Noah Harari's book “ 21 Lessons for the 21st Century " it will be the rich who will get all these extensions and enhancements done to their bodies . They will become superior humans aka advanced cyborgs . There will be classes of cyborgs and useless poor humans . The way technological developments are taking place we might end up with cyborgs and humans living together. Eventually everyone will become a cyborg and that will be the end of Homo Sapiens as a species.
Is that future Good ? Will it be better for us if we turn into cyborgs? Is living more years going to be more satisfying ? Will I be more happy being a cyborg than i am being a human ?
So many questions to ponder upon . Will cyborgs have feelings ? Will they feel empathy ,kindness and compassion? Will they love ?
What separtes us humans from machines ? We used to think the ability to think was what separates us . It turns out our ability to think has patterns and such patterns can be recognised by artificial intelligence. There might be a future where artificial intelligence will make all decisions for us not because we want it to decide for us but because it will make better decisions than us.
Presently the feelings that we experience are the one which separate us from machines . But who is to say machines won't feel in future .
So my fellow cyborgs are you ready for the future
