India achieved independent on the 15th August 1947 but she was still governal by constitution which the British had framed for us. Even before the achievement of Independence ,the constituent assembly had been entrusted the with the task of framing new constitution for India. The constitution was completed on that 26th November 1949. It came into force on January 26 1950.The new constitution which the people of India gave to themselves declared India sovereign,socialist secular,democratic republic hence 26th of January is known an republic day.
The republic day is a read letter day in the history of India.It was on this day India fully become a Sovereign nation after centuries of foreign rule. It us heard in a era of self rule. India got the opportunity now to shape her desting for herself. She was not be dictated by any foreign country of the world. Either in the domestic or foreign matters.
Since republic day is of immense significance. It is celebrated all over India with great pomp and show. But in Delhi, the capital of India it is celebrated with great grandneur and Splendour. The program begins with the March of the presidents precession from Rashtrapati bhavan to India gate people in large number flock to the city from various parts of the country to witness the parade seats or provided for V.I.P.S.., both Indian and foreign. At India Gate, the President takes salute of the three wings of Army i.e., Land Navy and Air Force.
Various types of awards or given on this day by the president. Gallantary awards are given to those who distinguish themselves by exceptional deeps of bravery or self sacrifice in compact against the enemy on land. Sea or in the air and for valour in other respect other than Military Civilians or honoured with various type of awards for their meritorious services to the country in the field of Art literature, Science and Social Services. After this the president returns to Rashtrapati bhavan by the rest of the procession continuous its March till it ends at the Red fort.
The procession in indecel a grand spectacle. It represents India in miniature it consists of the marching parade by the three wings of Army NCC, ACC, Delhi police,Fire Brigade services, Artillery tanks, Anti aircraft guns etc… The tableux attempt to present a view of India in miniature. Aeroplane fly overhead in various formations at night. Public buildings are profusely illuminated and the display of fireworks provides entertainment and enjoyment to people.
The republic day has great messages for us, it reminds us of the sacrifices made by the fighters for freedom. Exhort's us to work hard for the welfare and prosperity of country's freedom and territorial integrity It tells us how much has been achieved and how much is still to be achieved. It also calls upon us to work for the fulfillment of ideas which free India stands for.
