Secrets Of The Shadowed Manor [PART-1'S] EXTRACT:

In the rain-soaked autumn of Eddington, a town once grand but now shadowed and decaying, Detective Eliza Hartwell arrives seeking a quiet life after retiring from London. Her new Victorian home on Ravenswood Lane is barely settled when Constable Henry Lawson arrives with unsettling news: a local historian, Edwin Thorne, has been found murdered at the old Hawthorne estate. The estate, a decaying relic shrouded in ivy, and Thorne’s reputation for uncovering Eddington's hidden past, hint at a deeper mystery awaiting Eliza.

Chapter 4: The Secret Room

Resorting to the map, Eliza ventured into other areas of Eddington, each of them leaving her more confused than before. At last, she was led to an old abandoned cemetery on the other side of town, a location that was basically abandoned.
Carrying a flashlight and a shovel, she began to dig in the ground beside a very old headstone with the symbol of the Order of the Raven engraved on it. She was up for hours, and in the end she just found that there was a secret entrance—a narrow passageway going deep below the cemetery. The chamber was dim, filled with dust and relics and artifacts from yesteryears. At the center of the chamber lay an ornate, large iron-bound chest, upon whose surface similar symbols were drawn, just like those on the said documents. Inside the chest was a manuscript together with some jewels which, to Ida's surprise, proved that Thorne's inquiries were actually correct. There was also a journal, which expanded more on the activities the society was up to and their intentions, and was written by one of the members of the Order of the Raven. It was said in the journal that the society had dissolved, and their treasures were left and supposedly 'abandoned' to keep them away from the wrong hands.

Chapter 5: The Final Confrontation:
With the new evidence in her possession, Eliza returned to the estate of Hawthorne. She had a feeling that the murder was not only for the treasure but also to protect it from those who would have misused the treasure. Her instincts proved correct when she found meddled signs in Edwin Thorne's study, which told her that a person must have been searching for the missing manuscripts.
Eliza gathered all of the main suspects in the drawing room: Lydia Wren, who had been overly eager to help; Constable Lawson, whose loyalty was now called into question; several local historians who had clashed with Thorne over his research. It became clear, very soon, that whoever the killer was did, in fact, have inside knowledge of both Thornes research and the history of the Order.
