Most of the recent remote controls are based on IR technology. Yes, IR(Infrared) signal is emitted by the IR transmitter or also called IR LED(Light Emitting Diode) and the devices which this remote going to control has a IR receiver or also called TSOP(Thin Small Outline Package).

The transmitter side i.e., IR remote has IR LED which emits IR radiation on every click, this is a digitally encoded pulse each and every single button has different pulse to differentiate the operation of every button on the remote. the IR signal cannot visible to normal human eyes.

Then how to see?

here is the solution for this IR signal can't visible to human eye but it can be seen through digital camera. yes, take your TV remote and press a button and watch it through camera you can see the purple light emitting from the remote.

why IR is visible to camera?

camera has digital sensors, mainly in that it has IR sensor which detects the IR radiation and specialty of this sensor is, it detect the different level of thermal radiation.

IR visible through phone camera

This is up to the part of transmitter here we go through the receiver part usually it is inbuilt in the devices that we are going to control, this circuit decodes the signal from the transmitter and passes to the microcontroller for further operation.

The above shown image is the IR receiver it needs 3 connections in order to work i.e., VCC, GND, Signal pin.

IR technology has many other applications like:

  • Security cameras

IR security cameras also called as IR CCTV cameras used for video monitoring at streets or business apartments or hospitals etc., in the low light or with no light in the night. Even though it captures the surrounding things and it make visible to us just because the IR security cameras has a arrays of IR LEDs in it which emits IR light continuously hence the object gets captured where this light falls on.

  • Night Vision cameras

Many professional photographers use night vision camera because as that is there profession to take photos of nature some night wondering things get captured through this type of cameras and thanks to IR technology that makes things to visible which can't be visible by our normal eyes.

Hope this article gives you some information on IR technology keep follow my blog for more like interesting topics.
