Are you wanting to go to the gym but don’t know where to start? Hopefully, these tips give you peace and confidence when you walk into the gym for the first time.
Hello my friend, I just want to say I am so proud of you. You are awesome and you’re doing great.
The gym is a very intimidating place. It can be very scary and overwhelming, from all the weird-looking equipment to all the different people.
But, there is hope that you won’t feel this way forever. Going to a new place can be nerve-racking no matter what kind of establishment it is. The more you go, the more comfortable you will feel.
I have been lifting since I was in 8th grade, I don’t know everything, but I do know some things that will help you out.
I hope that these tips will give you confidence for your first day in the gym.
There are so many videos out there that will teach you how to lift. Videos will help you so much because you will be able to see exactly what the other person is doing.
I would advise you to watch videos by different people to make sure they’re all saying the same thing. You want to have multiple sources about form and different exercises, not just one person who might not be showing the best way.
Watching videos will help you learn the correct form if you are a visual learner.
Videos will give you ideas about the different exercises and how to use certain machines in the gym. Some people have videos dedicated to teaching you how to use confusing machines.
I love watching tik toks of all the gym stuff. Look up workout routines on tik tok and so many videos will come up.
Watching videos of people in the gym helped me build more confidence in the gym. I learned what exercises target what muscle, how many reps/sets I should do, and many more things. I have learned different exercises from videos that I wasn’t taught in high school.
Watch what other people are doing and learn from them.
So, go watch as many gym/lifting videos as you can get your hands on. And, depending on your goals in the gym, those videos will be able to show you the best way to achieve those goals.
If you love taking notes, take notes on different gym tips that you have found. That will help to have all this information in one place.
I’m just telling you now, you don’t have to wear a sports bra and leggings if you don’t feel comfortable in them. I think those gym outfits are so so so cute.
Personally, I don’t feel comfortable in them so I always result to leggings with a big t-shirt. Wear something that you feel confident in, not something that society tells you to feel confident in.
Here’s a gym tip: leggings/ bike shorts are the way to go. You don’t have to worry about making sure your booty isn’t out, because you know it is secure in them tight bottoms.
But, wear whatever you feel comfortable in.
If you don’t feel comfortable In what you’re wearing, you aren’t going to feel comfortable at all.
This one is so hard. I find myself struggling with this still, but comparison sucks. It does no good for you because there will always be someone that you think looks better than you.
Recently, I have been trying to focus on getting stronger instead of how my body looks. For so long I was lifting so I could make my body look a certain way. I was not seeing any progress and it was exhausting.
Focus on getting stronger and you will see the results!
You are going to think that everyone is looking at you, but they aren’t. They are focused on themselves and wonder what other people think of them.
Put on music that helps you focus.
You will not see results if you aren’t consistent. It takes a long time to see results, but you just have to keep on trucking. There will be some days when you feel discouraged, but you just got to keep going, you can do it.
You won’t see results right when you get home from the gym, but you will slowly start seeing them over time if you are working hard and staying consistent.
Another thing, you have to work hard. Push yourself to go further than you ever thought you could. Try to train till failure with every set.
Plan days for going to the gym, having a rest day, or doing active recovery. This will help you create a schedule and stick to it.
For example, your goal might be to go to the gym 4 times a week. You could lift Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. Wednesday could be your active recovery day and Saturday and Sunday could be your rest days.
Your plan does not have to be like that. Try different things and see what works best for you. All of our bodies are different.
When you first start, focus on your form. Do not try to lift heavy just to say you lifted heavy. Having good form prevents injury and will help you lift heavier later on.
When you are learning exercises, go lighter than you think so you can get the form perfect before going up in weight. There are so many articles with gym tips to help your form!
You can record yourself and see how you can improve your form! Don’t be afraid to look up the correct form during your workout, this will help you a lot because you are doing it with the correct form fresh in your brain.
When you are focusing on form, have a muscle-mind connection. This means that you are focusing on the tension you feel when doing certain exercises. This will help you get stronger so much faster.
Take the time and concentration to do each rep with that connection.
This post was all about gym tips for beginners.
Hello friend, today we are going to talk about Ephesians 6:7.
Just in case you didn’t know, in the Bible, there is an old testament and a new testament. The old testament contains books written before Jesus was born. The new testament is after He was born. Ephesians is in the new testament.
Ephesians 6:7 says, “Work with enthusiasm, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people,”.
We are called to work hard at all we do. We can do this by imagining that we are physically working for Jesus instead of our bosses.
Sometimes we don’t want to work hard because our boss might not care, but if you were working for Jesus, you would want to give it 100%.
When I was younger, my parents would ask me to pick up dog poop. I would see little pieces that I could leave that my parents would never find out I left them. One day as I was contemplating leaving pieces, I was reminded of Ephesians 6:7.
I said, “If I was picking up dog poop for Jesus right now, I would make sure that I picked up every single piece,”. That encouraged me to work harder even in little things like that.
Next time you want to slack off a little cause no one will notice, say this verse and it will give you the motivation to give your job 100%.
