Moving to college can be intimidating and a whole new experience. In such a scenario having a guide is all we want. Here I am being a guide to all architecture newbies and sharing my top 5 do’s and don'ts .
The most anticipated time of any day was the studios. It's a break from all those dull, boring and theoretical lectures. Studio time was more about chatting, roaming around, catching upon each other’s life, gossiping rather than the actual task of drafting and designing. All the good, happy and funny memories will be created in this duration. Though these can also become a steal time for all the stationary “borrowers” who just understand the term take and forget the concept of returning the item. So be careful!
In Between the fun and enjoyment we tend to learn a lot about the subject and studios provide a great space to share knowledge.
I can relate to the temptation and the urge to buy those cute stationary but believe me it's always a wise idea not to invest in them. Eventually these stationers are going to be exploited by others more than you or just going to get lost. So try to save those pennies for that one extra tracing!
If you are already into an architecture school, I am sure you have heard this. Though I was completely ignorant about this till my first year but from my second year I was well aware about its importance. Site visits are not only for your structural knowledge but you also learn various things about materials, observe tons of stuff and lastly get an experience of site works and site work environment. Incorporate site visits in your day to day life and i can guarantee that you will learn more than your lecture and studio time.
Personally, I have learnt more from my seniors than my professors. It might not be the same for my classmates but my life saver were my seniors. From design solution to software they have taught me a lot and I will be forever grateful to them. So a little advice- go and interact with your seniors, you never know what they have in store for you.
Last but not the least, have fun. Enjoy the moments, don’t stress and don't panic. Submissions will happen and deadlines will always be there so breathe and savor each and every moment because the college life is not going to come back.
