Stop Calling Everyone Your Friend!

You need to stop calling everyone you meet your friend. There are plenty of words you can use to refer to people you know like acquaintance, colleague, co-worker, this guy I know, this person I really like etc.

Don't put them on that pedestal unless:

  • They have seen you dirty cry because something was hurting your insides and you couldn't even talk.
  • Unless they have driven half way through the city at peak traffic to pick you up when no ride was available.
  • Unless you have told each other something you would never dreamt of telling another people.
  • Unless they know actually how a situation or a topic or a place or a song or any such activity would make you feel.
  • Unless you guys have had a major fight after which you didn't speak to each other for days.
  • Unless you realised that losing them is far worse an outcome than saving your pride.
  • Unless it's their advice that you trust the most and also know to never take at face value.
  • Unless you know their tone of voice, even through a text message.
  • Unless they have seen your horrible moody rude arrogant absolutely disgusting side and you have seen there too.
  • Unless you can speak your mind in front of them without repercussions, or even with.
  • Unless you too have understood, experience and have been there for them through everything listed above. This is not an exhaustive list, this is not even a properly list but you get where I am going. Right?

Friendship is a big thing, it's like not just calling but making someone your family with your whole heart, it's trusting your entire self in their hands, it's knowing they will stand up for you even when you are not around, it's them never making you feel less, it's knowing they get you without you having to really explain yourself.

Just don't call everyone your friend because then you are just setting yourself up to getting hurt again and again. Friendship is a two way street. Call them someone you are getting to know. Call them someone with common interest as you, it's okay, but please remember being a friend to someone is a very big deal. So just don't use that word unless you actually mean it because that's when it starts to get very real. Friendship is like a responsibility you shouldn't take lightly. So beware, don't call everyone your friend!
