Most of the people have heard about LGBTQIA COMMUNITY but not very much familiar with the fascinating culture of the community. Month of june is not just about summers and vacations but also about the season of love i.e., pride month. The members of this community come together to commemorate pride month in june every year.
The sole purpose behind calling it βpride monthβ is to eradicate discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation and gender; to oppose the shame and stigma associated with the LGBTQIA community and to make people understand to accept themselves as they are as well as accepting others for the same.
Pride is all about coming together to celebrate LOVE irrespective of variance in sexuality, gender, race, caste and other social barriers. It is all about equality, acceptance, inclusivity, self identity and above all, LOVE. Its about being proud of who you are, no matter who you love and no matter where you stand in discovering your true identity and true self.
Various events are held during this pride month. The celebration includes pride parades waving rainbow flag, activism events to create social awareness against discrimination the community have to face, many protests and movements to fight for the rights of the community.
LGBTQIA community uses rainbow flag as its symbol and the colours in the flag reflects the diversity, togetherness and identity of the community. The most common variant of rainbow flag consists of six colourful stripes π³οΈβπ and all the colour depicts a particular meaning as follows:-
The flag is flown horizontally and in the way that red strip is on the top.
Pride month teaches us:
Take stand for yourself even if you have to stand alone. It might take huge courage to stand up for who you are and what feels right but once you do, you will feel the world is equally yours and you are not different.
Let's come together crossing boundaries of gender and sexual orientation to celebrate pride.
Remember, LOVE IS LOVE!
