Hello friends hope everybody is doing amazing, and keeping in good health. Iam here after a very long time as I was occupied with some work and nonethless Iam here to share my knowledge. As Iam a dermatologist practicing in my clinic we come across a few of the very common skin infections and the patients are anxious and worrisome about it. Thus I hereby try to explain few basic terminologies and the apt points to follow.

1.Tinea infection: This is one of the commonest condition we treat on an every day basis. Some refer it to as ringworm infection which can affect the whole body, scalp, face, hands and legs. This is a superficial fungal infection where the fungi grows over the superficial layer of the skin feeding on a protein called keratin which is an important component of the skin. Based on the region it affects we call it by different names with the common prefix “Tinea”. Patient complains of symptoms like itching which is uncontrollable and some might also complains of pain and pus when it’s secondarily infected. And it is a communicable disease meaning it spreads from one person to another with contact and fomites. My suggestion for this infection would be kindly consult a dermatologist and not to buy an over the counter cream which is given by the pharmacists which is usually the case.

2. Pityriasis versicolor: This is also a fungal infection which affects the superficial layer of the skin. It usually presents as multiple white or black patches which might be present over the neck, body (seborrheic areas) usually there is no symptoms but some might complain of irritation and slight itching. And they tend to pain as they doubt whether it’s vitiligo as there are white patches. Don’t worry at all, as it’s just a fungal infection and totally treatable.

3.Dandruff:which is a common fungal infection we encounter in a day to day basis.Medically termed as “seborrheic dermatitis“ presents with yellowish-whitish flakes over the scalp with itching and a fact related to this condition is, it can also affect the skin. Yes, as the fungus feeds on the oil secreted by the skin…it can cause the infection over the body too… And one more myth to burn is, it doesn’t spread from one another so don’t bother about it. It is treated according to the severity and exaggeration maybe seen during winters.

4.Folliculitis: referred to as bumps, boils. Affects any part of the body and is basically the infection of the hair follicle. Presents as red bump filled with pus. Pain and itching are the common symptoms. Don’t pop it or try or clear it off its content, it will only increase the problem. Consult the dermatologist and the remedy works wonder.

Hope this piece of information served some purpose. We shall meet with some interesting topic in my next blog. Keep tuned in And don’t forget take care of yourself.
