A Fortnight Of Covid Duty Experience

That anxious feeling few hours before the duty timings, taking bath twice a day, staying alone, avoiding everybody (one might be covid positive),getting mentally prepared, learning proper donning and doffing methods, drinking a whole bottle of water before donning, wearing double masks and gloves over the wounded marks, staying alert for long duty hours, talking at the top of your voices so that patients can hear you through the mask, filling the case sheets, running behind the sisters to get the job done, checking vitals every now (thank God the pulsoxymetre is handy and an automatic machine unlike the BP apparatus),sweating through and through inside the PPE,mastering the art of adjusting the irritating mask without touching the face, counselling the patients attenders, calming them down, politely answering each and every small doubts of theirs, with each muscles getting sore or cramped after the duty, crashing the biological clock, adjusting to the harmed sleeping pattern, securing your phone in the plastic bag so that you don't touch it with gloved hands, empathising the patients situation, literally making patients masks changing them when needed(because no caretaker is allowed as they will be at risk)taking care of excess of patients (because of lesser doctor patient ratio;being 1:30),learning a new method of treatment and newer things (if you are not a physician), completely deviated from the branch of postgraduation we joined for, taking time to get back the study routine we were on,watching people having difficulty in breathing ,with their oxygen masks 24/7,watching them cautiously when they walk to the washroom (desaturation alert),shifting the sick cases to the ICU and if ICU beds are not available to some other hospital (convincing is very hard) and FINALLY the heartbreaking moment ;declaring death

And again going back the same ward fearlessly watching the same patients and serving them to make the situation a lil better than the previous day.(trying harder day by day)

Makes us sad,hurtful and helpless.

COVID duty is once in for all a totally different world and the situation is real.

We don't want to be in the situation again god forbid,so kindly follow the needful measures and all hand in hand together we shall fight the 3rd wave , because enough is enough of this evil virus.

Stay home stay safe. Get vaccinated

Let God give strength to face everything.
