Learning A New Language... Spanish
Everyone is wanting to do something interesting in today's time to kill their boredom. One of the best ways to do something new is to learn, learn a new language. I have been fortunate enough to learn Spanish in the time of the pandemic. Therefore, I want to help other people here learn this new language and this can add on to your skills and knowledge.
Let's begin with some basic greetings,
- Hello - Hola (pronounced as 'OLA'
- Bye - Adios (pronounced as aadioos)
- How are you? - ¿Como estás? (pronounced as written)/ ¿Qué tal? (pronounced as K taal)
- Good morning - Buenos Días (pronounced as written)
- Good afternoon - Buenos Tardes (pronounced as written)
- Good night - Buenas noches (pronounced as written)
- See you tomorrow - Hasta mañana (pronounced as aasta manyana)
- See you soon - Hasta luego (pronounced as aasta luego)
- I love you - Te amo (pronounced as written, most of us learn this at first😂)
These are basic greetings, now let's checkout some introductory sentences.
- My name is… - Me llamo… (pronounced as may yamo)
- I am 18 years old - Tengo dieciocho años (pronounced as tengo dieciocho anyos)* you can change 18 to your own age.
- I am from Indian - Soy de India (pronounced as written)
- I live in Delhi - Vivo en Delhi (pronounced as vivo n Delhi)
- My hobbies are to dance and to sing - Mis aficiones son bailar y cantar (pronounced as miss aaficiones sone bailaar e caantaar)
Now let's learn some basic vocabulary to modify the sentences as per our choice. First let's begin with numbers till 20.
- One - Uno (pronounced as the card game Uno)
- Two - Dos (pronounced as written)
- Three - Tres (pronounced as written)
- Four - Cuatro (pronounced as written)
- Five - Cinco (pronounced as sink o)
- Six - Seis (pronounced as sayis)
- Seven - Siete (pronounced as written)
- Eight - Ocho (pronounced as written)
- Nine - Nueve (pronounced as nu aive)
- Ten - Diez (pronounced as written)
- Eleven - Once (pronounced as onsay)
- Twelve - Doce (pronounced as dosay)
- Thirteen - Trece (pronounced as tresay)
- Fourteen - Catorce (pronounced as ka tore say)
- Fifteen - Quince (pronounced as kin say)
- Sixteen - Dieciséis (pronounced as dieci sayis)
- Seventeen - Diecisiete (pronounced as written)
- Eighteen - Dieciocho (pronounced as written)
- Nineteen - Diecinueve (pronounced as written)
- Twenty - Veinte (pronounced as bay in te).
Let's end today's lesson. I'll start with something new in the next blog. It must be noted that in Spanish each letter is spelt out although there are a few exceptions.
