In my previous blog, I was telling about Sheela Devi (my patient with Paralysis). In continuation……
Sheela Devi was furiously looking at me as soon as I bent towards her to assess.
I was aback when she all of a sudden tried to spit on me. I kind of jumped from the place two steps back like a rabbit. I was confounded by this behavior, it felt like somebody has shooted a arrow on me and I kind of saved my life from the spit by moving to a safer place. I was jammed and motionless for few seconds, until I heard a voice “Are u okay Doctor”.
I holded myself and replied I'm okay. The attendants around was so embarrassed by this behavior of her. Then Sheela Devi started abusing me with fragmented (actually harsh) words which were sounding gun shots, she continuously kept spitting towards me. I did not understand what happened to her, then I realized she was not in the correct state of mind due to her Stroke.
Everybody tried to keep her silent, but guess what, she became Shankar Mahadevan in the manner, with non- stop showering abuses.
I somehow managed to assess her with the help of staff out there. I made her relatives understand all the do's & don'ts of the ailment. I promised her son to give a visit next day as well, as he was little ashamed of her mother for behaving such rudely, he was not sure that I will come back again tomorrow see her.
I managed to visit her everyday and make her do all the exercises🧘♀️ and stuff as per the formulated prescription. It was so challenging and tiresome, as she was not ready to move a bit following my instructions. After 7 days finally she got discharged as per the Neuro physician. On her discharge, I gave her a long list of active and assisted training drills which she has to follow with the help of the family members.
One day I was busy in the OPD of my department, I felt something rubbing on my feet swiftly, then I saw a lady bending in front of me. It was a familiar face to me, yes she was Sheela Devi now standing with folded hands. I stood with a bounced stance, and held her hand. She started crying and sobbing, apologizing for the behavior towards me a few days back.
She started walking and taking rotations to show me that she is alright now. I was so happy looking at her that she can walk unassisted, she can talk properly now.
I hugged her hard without thinking twice that other people are looking at me. Now I knew that, I have achieved something for the first time which was really difficult. She gave me blessings at all her best she can. Her family members were also there blessing me. I was touched and proud at the same time. My seniors were appreciating me for my work.
Now Sheela Devi used to visit me everyday for the rehabilitation and Gait training👩🦯 for about a month, as she was not perfectly ok.
It was a final Good Bye👋👋 to her on the last day of visit, when she was up to the mark on her own. It was sad to be apart with my first success, but I was filled with overbearing happiness and success.
So, this was my Success story. Because of such patient's blessing contribution that whom I'm today and of course not to forget my parents, professors and seniors who have helped me be what I'm in my life.
