Abraham and Sarah - Bible story
The story of Abraham be Sarah in Genesis revolved around the theme of descendants and God's promises land. Abraham was commanded by God to leave the house of his father Terah and go to the land formerly given to Canaan, which God had promised to Abraham and his descendants. Sarah, also known as Sarai, is Abraham's wife.
God tells Abraham to leave his Homeland and go to the land he will show him to make sure that he "makes him a great nation, blesses him, magnifies his name, and blesses those whom he has blessed." I said following God's call, Abraham took his wife Sarah, his nephew lot and the wealth they had acquired and set off for Canaan.
Abraham and Sarah traveled South to Egypt because of a severe famine in the land of Canaan. During the trip to Egypt, Abraham asked Sarah to call her his sister. He was afraid that the Egyptians will look at you and say, “"This is his wife” Then they will kill me, but you let me live. Then, thanks to you, I will be treated well and my life will be spared"(Genesis 12:11-13).
When Sarah was called before Pharaoh, she declared Abraham to be her brother, and the king considered him to be the brother of the beautiful Sarah and gave them gifts. They received the Egyptian servant Hagar inside. However, when God tormented Pharaoh's family, Pharaoh realized that Sarah was Abraham's wife and ordered them to leave Egypt.
Ten years after returning to Canaan, Abraham and Sarah still had no children. Sarah offered Abraham to have a child with the Egyptian maid Hagar, and he agreed. This caused stress between Sarah and Hagar when Sarah protested to her husband that her maid no longer considered her an authority. Hagar fled from her mistress, but she returned after her angel came to her. Later she gave birth to Abraham's son Ishmael. In Genesis 17, when Abraham was 99 years old , God declared his name to be “Abraham”, or “ Father of many nation's” and gave him the covenant of circumcision. Abraham was given assurances that Sarah would have a son. Shortly thereafter, Abraham and Sarah were attacked by three men. One of the guests said that Sarah would have a son when Abraham arrived next year. Sarah soon became pregnant and gave birth to a son to Abraham at the very moment prophesied. Abraham, who was 100 years old at that time, named the child Issac. Isaac later became an important figure in the biblical story and the father of Jacob.
