The book I've chosen is called “hunger games” by Suzanne Collins. The story is set at panem ,north America, surrounded by 12 districts. Few years ago, the districts had waged war against the capitol and were defeated by the capitol. So, all the 12 districts were forced to surrender to the capitol. Every year, the capitol conducted a televised event for which all the districts agreed to send one boy and one girl respectively to represent their district and this was part of the agreement they made with the capitol.
The annual event was more of like a death sentence. The representatives were chosen in a similar way to lucky draw. The one who gets selected must take part in this annual event called “the hunger game” . The event was called that way because all the 12 districts were deprived of proper food .so, whoever wins this event shall get enough food supplies around the year !.but the game is not very easy to be won. It is because the motto of the game is “kill or be killed”. All the 24 participants are put in an arena and that entire place has cameras that do live broadcast 24/7. In this arena they create various obstacles in which mere survival itself becomes very tough. so, whenever someone gets selected for this event they are scared to death as the possibility of that person returning back home was almost zero.
So, the day arrives and the female protagonist ,Katniss Everdeen volunteers for this in order to save her younger sister who got selected. So, Katniss enters the event and realizes that they capitol is playing with the representatives. The capitol starts creating instant obstacles just to make the live broadcast interesting. All of the participants start to fight for their life. They kill each other to save their own self. she starts to witness betrayal, jealousy, back stabbing among the participants and decides to stay alone. that is when she meets Peeta ,fellow participant, who was genuine. they both together continue to play the game of death.
this book turns out to be an interesting one, with great plot twist and realistic approach.it also gives hope for people that even in hardest times of life a witty response to problems will give meaningful solutions.
