Fate And Destiny - Know The Difference

Let me tell you a story. I scored 89% in my class 12th exams in CBSE boards, and ended up getting one of the mediocre colleges on merit basis. On the other hand, my friend who scored 78% got one of the reputed colleges of Delhi university. Well, it's quite a political thing to discuss as to why he has got such a reputed college despite scoring lesser marks than me but I assume we all must have got the point. Keeping political thing aside, here we can ascertain the difference between fate and destiny. It was my fate to scoring 89% marks, however it was my destiny to ended up getting a mediocre college.

"Fate is what happens to us and destiny is what we make despite of our fate."

In the legends of Mahabharata, no one can disregard Karna and his competencies and abilities. Karna was born to Kunti with the boon of his divine father Surya (The sun god). Yet he spent his whole life as a son of charioteer. The person who should have been a prince, spent his life bearing injustices one after another. In this epic one can differentiate fate with destiny. It was his fate to be born as a child of the sun. It was his destiny that he got raised up in a shanty of a charioteer father.

In the epic of Ramayana, Lord Ram was born as a prince but spent 14 years in exile. Even as Lord Krishna was born in prison yet spent his whole life as a prince.

No matter with what fate we are born, we always have options to shape our destiny. It is our thoughts, actions, character and deeds which shape our life ahead, and eventually our destiny. Remember, your fate is not in your hands but your destiny is. It's up to you how you will shape it and in which direction. Karna chose to fight in favor of Kauravs, and he met his destiny accordingly. Fate is beyond your control and you can't change your fate. However, if you choose to work hard and in right direction then you're destined to be a successful person because it is completely in your hands. Your life's rope is in your hands, don't blame anyone for your misfortune.
