Stranger's Gift In Rain

Hey there!!!

I am back with another personal story. This time it includes a little twist. This happened about 2 years ago and left me frightened. So let's begin with my experience of thrill, excitement and fear.

As you may know that I study in second shift of my school, which runs from 12 in the noon to 6:30 pm. The sky became completely dark and gave us horror effects. I remember that I used to ride bicycle to my home. This story is from the month of December, when every thing becomes scary but exciting.

That day, it rained heavily in the evening. Wind was shaking trees and our whole class was discussing about how are we going to return in this dangerous condition. I didn't have any raincoat and I was also not prepared for the rain. It was an unpridicted weather. I, somehow managed 2 plastic bags to cover my books and notebooks, lying inside my school bag. Bell rang and students came out of their classes in the same way as a herd of cows and buffaloes does.

It was still raining, but not heavy as it was in evening. Our principal discussed with teachers and came out with a decision that those who don't go with their guardians or school transports will have to stay in the school until rain stops. To say this simply, those who travelled alone had to stay back in school and their parents will be informed about this. I had to stay back in the school. No one was left from my class except a friend, who used to walk back to her home.

Time passed, that one friend's father came to pick her. Now I wasn't left with anyone to talk with. My parents would have come too, but they were out of town and my grandparents couldn't make it up to school on their own. After waiting for whole hour, the rain stopped. Only few students were left till now. We picked our bags and left the school by assuring teachers that we will directly go to Home.

I was riding bicycle as fast as I could. My home is about 2 km from the school. I only reached quarter of it when it started raining again. It was raining so hardly that I couldn't risk to ride in it. The area of my school is jungle, it is horrible and lonely as hell. Isaw someone standing at the pole near the end of the road. Who was that person? As I went closer I realised that there was a person standing with his broken cycle. I tried to ignore him and move away, but he called me by saying β€œListen!” I ignored him again. He joined me and asked if I knew where to find a mechanic at this hour. I thought about the time when I was in a similar situation and no one came to help and finally I had to walk with my cycle whole way. The shop of mechanic was on my way. I told him to follow me. I tried not to tell a lot about me. We just exchanged our names, class, school and general talks. We reached mechanic's shop. I asked him if he had 20 rupees to pay to the mechanic. He replied that he had only 10 rupees. I took out my wallet from the last pocket of bag and gave him other 10 rupees. He denied at first but he couldn't do that for a long time, it was a fact that he needed it. While the mechanic was treating his bicycle he asked me that how could he return the favour. I replied that he doesn't need to, just take it as a gift from angel. He thought something and took out a red coloured hat from his bag. He asked me to accept that hat in return. At first, I denied but as I didn't want to talk a lot with him, I accepted it at his third attempt.

Mechanic repaired his bicycle. When we were leaving the shop, rain became harsher. I was walking ahead with cycle's handle in my hand and he was walking behind me. Suddenly, a hand covered my nose with a piece of cloth and whispered thank you in my ears. I fell down on the ground. I can't express how I felt at that moment.

I woke up from my bed. I could see the patches of water as the proof of last night's rain on the roof of my neighbour. I couldn't remember the face of that person. I realised that it was just a dream. My parents were back late at night. My mother was taking out the books and notebooks from my bag, as the bag was completely wet. I asked mom about what had happened yesterday.

She said," You returned home, changed your clothes, ate some food and went straight to the bed. You were too tired and wet. You walked whole way from your school because of rain."

I thought that everything was true except that person and me falling on the ground. Psychologists say that it is common to have dreams related to what you thought about before sleeping. I felt relieved that what I saw wasn't true.

My mom called me. I went to her.

She said," Hey Yagya! What a nice hat you have bought. When did you buy it and why didn't you tell me about this? Did you buy this yesterday?". She was excited all of a sudden.

I went to see what kind of hat it was. My mom was sitting near my school bag emptying it to wash. She was holding a red coloured totally dry hat in her hands. Some golden coloured letters were written on that hat.

My mom read those letters aloud,"Thank you!"
