National Banana Day is somewhat akin to a psychedelic mashup of April Fool's Day and Halloween (without the trick-or-treating and vandalism, of course), plus a nice helping of healthy eating for good measure.

On National Banana Day, get ready to Go Bananas!

History:

Every year, there is a celebration called National Banana Day to honour bananas in every way possible because they are unquestionably a fruit to be honoured!

While primarily in India, Southeast Asia is where bananas are said to have first appeared. In 327 BC, Arab conquerors moved west and finally brought bananas to Europe. By the 1870s, missionaries had brought bananas to the Caribbean, where they were initially grown as micro crops (one crop that aids the growth of another). But eventually, bananas started to be grown as a successful crop on their own.

In the West, banana consumption increased in the late 1800s and early 1900s. Bananas were employed in special dishes like the banana split or in baking recipes like banana bread as they grew more widely available and less exotic.
Regarding the roots of National Banana Day, it is well known that each year, students at numerous major American universities observe the holiday as a means to honour this commonplace fruit. On this day, people consume and exchange bizarre and beautiful banana-based concoctions (banana punch, anyone? ), dress up as bananas, and generally act a little...well, nuts.

And obviously bananas as well.

The ideal day to find comfort in this renowned fruit that is helpful and advantageous on so many levels is National Banana Day. I wish you a happy Banana Day!

Fun facts about banana:

It could be entertaining to educate relatives and friends about bananas in observance of National Banana Day! To get things going, consider these facts:

•Although it looks like a fruit, a banana is actually a berry. This is due to the seeds' internal rather than external location within the flesh.

•Bananas are radioactive because they have a high potassium-40 isotope content. The good news is that they cannot hurt a person unless they consume at least 700 bananas daily for the rest of their lives.

•Bananas are said to be "sterile" since they cannot be developed from a seed alone. Instead, a piece from another banana plant must be divided and then developed, much like cloning, in order to reproduce bananas.

•Jules Verne, an American author, wrote about bananas in his book Around the World in 80 Days, which elevated the fruit to the top of many people's minds and contributed to their rise in popularity.
