Most of us are familiar with the term “freelancing”. The concept of work from home was being practiced much before covid. But covid outspread this concept even more. More and more people came to know about the comforts of working from home.
Many lost jobs in this pandemic and they switched to freelancing to meet their expenses. Most of them succeeded to make a livelihood out of it, some could not. But freelancing became a more common household name in recent days.
Everyone wants to stay with their dear ones, spend time with their family, and stay at home as much as possible, which was impossible with traditional 9-5, 5 days-a-week jobs. Freelancing provides just that. No dreaded Mondays, work on your own schedule, stay at home.
Freelancing has its advantages and disadvantages. Once you establish yourself on any freelancing platform you can earn more than your jobs may provide. You can work anywhere, even while on a vacation, if you want to, unlike the traditional jobs, where you need to be present in your office to complete a certain task. You can choose the workload. Whether you want part-time jobs or full-time jobs it totally depends on you. You can even choose your clients. You also get exposure to various types of jobs because job variety is one of the advantages of freelancing.
Everything comes with a little disadvantage and so does freelancing. Short deadlines, lack of benefits, and irregular work are some of them. Some clients want their work done quickly, and when starting a career as a freelancer, we don't want to leave a potential client. Unlike traditional jobs, freelancing does not include benefits and job security. Some days you may end up getting many jobs and some days nothing at all. Freelancing is like a business, where you are the CEO, the manager, and even the employee. You need to do everything from sending out proposals, to responding to interviews, negotiating the payment, and working.
Freelancing is tough. Not everyone can succeed in it. But if you can survive through the first few months of failure, you can excel in this field. If you are determined to be a successful freelancer then the disadvantages are nothing compared to the perks.
It was not long when freelancing was an alienated concept. No one really understood it. But as days passed, people understood its power, and now covid has made people more comfortable working from home. The increase in the number of freelancers in the past year is huge and in a few more years freelancing platforms would be one of the greatest marketplaces for individuals. The concept of traditional jobs won't eradicate because everything can't be virtual but it will surely reduce in number.
