Dear readers, would you call yourself a Feminist? I'm sure most of you will hesitate. Why? Because you don't know the actual definition of “Feminist”. You believe it is synonymous with “misandry” and “man-hating”. Let me tell you, dear humans, you are wrong.

Definitions- 

It's Common Sense!

The society we have built is so disappointing that the idea of gender equality is NOT common sense! It is so disappointing that feminists get more hatred than misogynists! It is so disappointing that even people who believe in gender equality hesitate in calling themselves a feminist.

So let's make it clear, Feminism is a radical notion that WOMEN ARE PEOPLE. 

Why is the term “Feminist” defamed?

1. Misconception about the meaning of feminism. Fighting for women's rights has too often become synonymous with man-hating (I hope I have succeeded in clearing this misconception from your mind).
2. Lack of awareness- Again, our education system is to blame. Why are we not taught important terms and ideologies? Because they want us to fall for such misconceptions. Because Patriarchy!
3. Because it is called “Feminism”. If it weren't called feminism then people would belittle it less but then that would defeat the entire point of feminism because when will people realize that something “feminine” or “female-related” is NOT BAD!
   Example? There are loads! Very recently I came to know that men who put on eyeliner prefer calling it “guyliner”. Why, sir? Is the term “eye”  too feminine for you?
4. “wE dOn'T NeEd FeMiniSim!” The fact that the gender pay gap still exists proves why we DO need it. The fact that NO country in the world can yet say that they have achieved gender equality. The fact that I have enough reasons against this argument that I can write a whole blog about it proves why we DO need it.

Water? No, thanks. I prefer H2O!

The Enemy of Feminism 

No, it's not men. It's patriarchy, and patriarchy is not men. It is a system, and women can support the system of patriarchy just as men can support the fight for gender equality. It is patriarchy that makes men more “powerful” than women. It is patriarchy that needs to be smashed.

Men who fear feminism are afraid of being treated the way they treat women. They do not understand that equal rights for others do not mean fewer rights for them. It's not a cake!

Feminists do not demand power over men, they demand power over themselves. A huge part of being a feminist is giving all women the freedom to make choices you won't necessarily make yourself. 

So yes, I am a feminist. And no, I don't hate men.
