Arikamedu is an archaeological site in southern india which is located near pondicherry the union territory. It is a place with lots of historical sites and evidences. Have you ever experienced to find some thing which belongs to the time that was thousands of years ago.
Sir Mortimer Wheeler 1945 and Jean Marie Casal started the excavation in 1947-50 at Arikamedu. And introduced the world with the Historic events.

arikamedu was a coastal settlement were ships load and unload goods during the old times. These was a major center of trade during the times of sangam literature .
At this time there were three main ruler who ruled the coast of kaveri river. And were mentioned as Muvendra in sangam literature. It is a tamil word that mean three powerful chiefs . The three powerful kings were .
arikamedu is situated near the Ariyankuppam river nad spread over 34.57 acres of land. According to the archaeological survey of India. Arikamedu was firstly mentioned on 1734.

There were lot of historical things found in Arikamedu. It include the massive brick structure which may be a warehouse. Various pottery include Amphorea from the Mediterranean region. Amphorea is a tall double handed glass jar . Stamed red glazed pottery named as Arrentine ware, which was named after the city in Italy. Roman lamp, glass ware, are also found. There were some evidences of making beads from semiprecious stones.
Arikamedu is a place with full of historical events. The Roman used to mention arikamedu as podouke. On October 2004, international Conference was held between the govt of Pondicherry and the Italian ministry of foreign affairs to deal with the excavation of the beautiful land.
There were many Roman coins found in arikamedu which was an evidence of trade between India and rome during that time. Arikamedu is a costal fishing village with lots of secret in it. There were many pottery found in this site.
The Roman gold coins found here state that during that time also people used to do trade with different routes .
