The extended dry period has taken a toll on India's former captain Virat Kohli's "mental health," he said, adding that he was "disturbed" to learn he "wasn't enthusiastic to play... practise." Days after England captain Ben Stokes disclosed his mental health struggles, Kohli spoke out about them.

In an interview with Star Sports, Kohli said, "I am not ashamed to say that I was feeling mental turmoil." "We don't want to appear to have a mental illness. Believe me when I tell that hiding your weakness is much worse than revealing it. I'm thought of as a psychologically tough man, and I am. However, everyone has a limit, and you need to be aware of it or else things may go harmful for you "explained he.

In spite of public suggestions from former India coach Ravi Shastri that Kohli needs a vacation and should leave the IPL, Kohli has been playing despite not having achieved an international century in over three years. He seems to have acknowledged his mistake.

Kohli said, "I suddenly realised that I was attempting to fake my intensity. I was making an effort to persuade myself that you lacked passion. But your body was urging you to quit. I was being advised by my thoughts to pause and back up. We don't want to appear to be mentally unstable.

For the first time in 10 years, I went a month without touching my bat. That is something I have never done in my life. I realised recently that I was trying to fake my intensity. You tell yourself, "I can do it, you're competitive," but your body and mind are pleading with you to stop and take a break. It's crowded, and I understand what Ravi bhai said about the amount of cricket played and how, over the past 10 years, I've played 40–50% more matches than anyone else. Since you're in shape and really striving to improve yourself, it's quite simple to disregard these things,' Kohli said.

Since I've played 40–50% more matches than anybody else over the previous ten years, I can appreciate what Ravi bhai mentioned regarding the volume of cricket played and the packed conditions. It's fairly easy to dismiss these things because you're in good form and genuinely trying to better yourself,' Kohli added.
