Hey guys.

Do u know about the CODEX GIGAS , also known as the devil's bible.

It is the largest handmade manuscript in the world. It has a length of 92 cm and weight almost 75 kg.

It has an unusual full page portrait of Satan. Due to the legend surrounding its creation , it is known as the devil's bible. We will discuss the legend later.

It was created in early 13th century in the Benedictine Monastery of Bohemia , now in Czech republic. It is written in Latin and contains the complete vulgate bible , as well as other popular works. It also tells in detail about exorcism , and covers many other topics.

The codex was written by Herman the recluse in Benedictine monastery. The monastery was destroyed in 15th century  during a revolution. Then, it was in sedlec monastery for 70 years. After a few years in another monastery , it was borrowed by the king Rudolf 2 of Prague to study. But during the war with the Swedish in 1648 , it was taken by the Swedish and is now preserved at the national library of Sweden , where it is displayed for the general public .

The bookbinding is wooden boards covered in leather with some metal fittings. The pages are all made up of animal skin (claimed to be made up of almost 160 donkeys , or perhaps calfskin). The words are written with different colors. The book is colorful , and full of pictures. There are also 2 miages representing heaven and earth during the creation. It initially had 320 pages , but last 12 pages were removed. It is unknown who removed the pages or for what purpose. But some people says that the pages contained the information about the way to  summon the devil. That's why they were removed by someone. But no one knows the truth.

Now , let's talk about the legend . Acc to the legend , the book was written by a monk who broke his monastric vows and was sentenced to be walled up alive ( bury in walls) . To avoid the penalty , he promised the king to create a book in jst 1 night that will contain all of his knowledge and it will glorify the monastery forever. But , after starting writing , he realized that he can't complete this book in 1 night ,so he prayed to Lucifer , asking him to help him in writing the book in exchange of his soul. The devil completed the manuscript and the monk added a picture of him in it as a gratitude.

The most interesting and horrifying thing is that it is written in same writing throughout the book. No change at all. Acc to scientists, if a person write such a book all alone , then it would take him almost 20 years of non-stop writing. And that also , excluding all the embellishments (pictures and all) . If we include pictures as well, then the number of years would be probably 40-50. If a perosn write a book all alone, then there is no chance that his handwriting will be same throughout , coz a person suffers from diseases , mood changes , all these things affect the handwriting. So , it is impossible for a perosn to write that large book with same handwriting.

That increase the chances of the legend to be true . May be really , Lucifer- the devil himself has written this . even scientists have no answer about it.

So , that's all about THE DEVIL'S BIBLE.

What do u think about this book . Comment below.
