Hey everyone, I am back with a new blog.

We all know that many people sleeps and lives on roads in our country India. Homelessness is the biggest issue in our country. Many people died because of that issue because they don't have house to protect them from heat, cold, rain and many other things.

I read about Finland like how they ended the issue of homelessness in their country and i hope India should learn this from them.

The number of homeless people in Finland in 1987 are too many and nobody knows what to do in that issue. In 2007, Matti Vanhanen became the Prime Minister of Finland and he execute an amazing plan with the help of other government members to end the homelessness in their country.

“The housing First model”, is the plan choose by the government of Finland. Homelessness decrease by 5% in Finland after just adapting this model. Finland has been trying for many years to deal with this issue but only they get is failure. Previously, Finland has been choosing the “staircase approach”, in which the person has to deal with different steps to get a home. The major disadvantage of this approach is that the person doesn't get the home in the first stage. After finding this major disaadvange the government of Matti Vanhanen started using "the housing first model".

The government divided this policy in two phases PAAVO 1 and PAAVO 2.  PAAVO 1 runs from 2008 to 2011, it includes, long term and hidden homelessness. PAAVO 2 runs from 2012 to 2015, it includes the plan of eliminating the complete homelessness.

A private NGO plays a huge part to remove homelessness in Finland, the name of NGO is Y Foundation. This NGO use 3 method to give homes, they construct flats, purchase flats or convert shelter homes into flats.

Research has been done to identify homeless people and then the home will allocated to them according to their requirements. The person the home has been allotted to, have to pay the rent but their is no fixed duration of that. Also, the social workers provides the groceries, medical facilities and also a stable job to the person.

That's how “the housing first” policy works in Finland and according to me it's an awesome idea.

Not only the issue of homelessness but the issue of unemployment also get fixed if we use this policy.

Please tell me your views on it.

Till we meet again.
