Vada Pav!!! when you hear these two words, first thing that comes to your mind is Mumbai and why not, I mean Mumbai and Vada Paav are entwined together for lifetime. I am writing this article just to clear some thoughts on History of Vada pav and how it became most popular snack in entire maharashtra. August 23 is World Vada Pav day.

First things first… What is Vada pav? Vada means deep fried masala potato dumpling and Pav means Bread bun. The dumpling is placed in between pav and enjoyed together. Vada pav is enjoyed with Fried Green chili and dry spicy groundnut garlic chutney or tangy and mint chutney. 

How vada pav originated? Most people say, it was invented in 1960's in the central mumbai. The man who invented vada pav was Ashok Vaidya of Dadar. He started first vada pav stall outside dadar railway station. Another person who is also credible for vada pav is Vaze family. They used to sell vada pav in kalyan which was known as Khidki Vada pav.

Why Vada pav? why not any other snack? let me answer this question very thoroughly. Vada pav is carbohydrate reach snack. This is the reason After eating 2 vada pav people used to get their energy to do heavy work. It was cheap and quick snack in the 1960's so it became popular among workers. One more advantage of Vada pav is that it was easy to eat during travelling through local train compare to other snack items at that time.

How Vada pav became so popular? Credit for Popularization of Vada Pav goes to ShivSena and party chief Balasaheb Thackeray. He encouraged Maharashtrian people to become entrepreneurs. He suggested start food stalls like south indian people opening Udupi stalls. Shivsena started Vada pav sammelan. In 2009 shivsena ntroduced Shiv Vada Pav.

another question in your mind is How to make Vada pav? and let me tell you this the easiest recipe you will ever make. cook 4-5 potato in pressure cooker, peel their skin off and mash them, mix them with chopped chili, garlic, chopped coriander, turmeric powder, and some spices which you like. Now make balls with this mashed potato mixture and dip them into gram flour batter and deep fry them until they become lightly golden and take them out and place them inside Bread Bun and serve with chili and chutney of your choice.
