Smile!!! (With My Thoughts) ...

Welcome back to my blog!! As you have seen todays topic above. So lets start with a pure SMILE….

It feels strange to be back at the work place in this post- pandemic world. But what feels strange is not the external environment, but something within. Though the pandemic has been one of the worst crises faces collectively by the globe, killing lakh, I realize it has left something good too in its wake..

My friends tell me the first impression they had me was of a snooty, snobbish girl who thinks too much of herself. That is the first impression all my current friends had of me! But as time passed and the ice broke and they became my friends, they tell me they realized (thankfully!) that I am far from any one of those! Rather a crazy, stupid friend. The fact that, is the kind of first impression I used to put on people I attributed to my ‘reserved nature’. I knew that was the impression I put and was not bothered about it. Instead I thought it helps keep creepy, nonsense people away. it's not that I was snooty, snobbish. It's just that I liked being with myself and was happy in my world.

While that still holds true, one pandemic, one and half years and two COVID waves later, I find myself more empathetic more raring to talk to people, more raring to make them friends in this post- pandemic world.

This is a whole 180 degree turn around from what I was before the pandemic. The ‘human contact’ is what I am looking to establish these days. To talk with the canteen uncle, that hostel warden, that girl cross the corridor, that office uncle.. to just smile.. and say “hi”! I find myself kinder than before more ready to help.. maybe even more forgiving. The whole world feels like your own after the deadly pandemic.. as if your friend!

As I find these emotions inside me, I question the pervious version of myself.. was that even me?

The pandemic has thus been a sort of experience in empathy for me. I even realised the true value of friends in this pandemic.

Living within the same four walls and going through a 'never- experienced- before' crisis, sometimes even family fails to understand even words spoken loud. But a call to a friend such times soothes and heels. You realise it's the same story everywhere… that everyone is going through the same thing. When you connect with the people of your generation, your friends, you realise how your thoughts resonate with them.

Ofcourse, family always comes first, but I realised it does not harm to have a set of nice warm family beyond family called ‘friends’. ‘Friends’ went from people you just went out with, to a deeper meaning, a deeper level- those who're there to listen when you want to talk… To get such people in the single- most difficult thing in this world, I believe.

Hence, the desire these days to string more pearls of friends in the necklace of life. I have a very few friends, but those that I do, they stand by me when I need them and vice versa! getting a person whose wavelenghts match with you, who's a golden person at heart and is worthy of being called your ‘friend’ is not as easy a thing as it may seem! A person may have many ‘friends’, but the true ones among those must be rare.

Hence, I hope when I enter a new space in this post- pandemic world, I come across as friendly amiable person and not as a snooty, snobbish person, with my welcoming smile! After all as they say, a smile is the shortest distance between two people!

THANKYOU!!
