Nalsarovar Bird  

Sanctuary

Gujarat  The lake attracts over 210 species of birds in the winter, and harbors a

variety of plants and animals.

 Besides a few mammalian species including the endangered wild ass and  

the black buck, its migratory bird population includes rosy pelicans,  

flamingoes, white storks, brahminy ducks and herons.

31. DeeporBeel Assam  It is a permanent freshwater lake, in a former channel of the Brahmaputra  

River, to the south of the main river.

32. Rudrasagar Lake Tripura  The lake is abundant in commercially important freshwater fishes.

33. Bhoj Wetland Madhya Pradesh  The Bhoj Wetland consists of two lakes located in the city of Bhopal.

 Two lakes are the Bhojtal (Upper Lake) & the Lower Lake, which lie to the  

west of the city center

 The Bhojtal was created by Paramara Raja Bhoj (1005-1055), ruler of  

Malwa.

The park is the last natural refuge of the endangered Sangai (state animal)

Mangroves

Orissa  Bhitarkanika Mangroves were designated a Ramsar Wetland of  

International Importance in 2002.

 Olive ridley turtles arrive in January to March for nesting at Gahirmatha  

Beach.

37. Chilika Lake Orissa  It is the largest wintering ground for migratory birds on the Indian sub-

continent. The lake is home to a number of threatened species of plants.

The Reserve hosts the only known population in India of the endangered  

Indus river dolphin, endangered masher and hog deer.

consisting of two oxbow lakes
