The Virtual World

It is that time of the year again when I feel that I am free. But then your mind starts wandering again. My summer vacations begin amidst a lockdown once again. So there goes my mind…..Thinking of things to do. The first question that pops in mind is how can I learn something new this summer.

With loads of excitement I approach our favourite guru Google baba to seek enlightenment to HOW TO…. How tooo, what??? Google baba dropped down a whole waterfall of How to’s and I drowned. I now understand the predicament of the millennials today, too much information to choose from.

There is so much information but very little knowledge among the youth today. In the 90’s when the subject knowledge was only limited to the hard copies students thronged the libraries but today even the libraries are gone online. With apps like Kindle and Podcast the literary works have opened up all borders.

I usually stumble upon the social media debate on physical books versus the virtual books. On one hand we have the  middle aged people still feel nostalgic about handwritten letters and then on the other side we have the millennials who have never visited the post office nor have any idea what the red box on the street corner is used for.

Then comes the pandemic and the whole world goes into a frenzy. With online teaching going to the next level many have started doubting the role of real teachers. Can teachers in a real class be swapped with online teachers? This controversial topic has created a storm in the education industry.

New apps, new online courses overall a new virtual educational world is created with tons of resources and experts. Now I have a very basic question, is this world fair to all?

On one hand we have a group of dim-witted youth who keep searching for shortcuts and hacks to clear exams while on the other hand we have genius minds from third world countries who have no access to those resources. I don't deny the fact that this virtual world has created prodigies in different fields but then how big is this number?

And guess what just as I was writing this blog I found my answer to which ‘How to” should I go for.

So finally my google search is going to be: “How to help students with no access to the internet ?”

If you have any good answers to this search please do let me know.
