Varisu review : Decent Family Entertainer.

Performances : Thalapathy Vijay is once again in his elements and gave a neat performance. It has been a while since he acted in a proper family drama, and the actor was superb in the film with his one-liners, punch dialogues, and screen presence. His comedy timing worked big time, and Vijay is also stunning in sentimental scenes.        Rashmika Mandanna is featured in yet another commercial film, and she gets along well with Vijay. On screen, the actress is very energetic. Srikanth, Kick Shyam, Sangeetha among others performed decently in their given roles.

Senior actor Sarathkumar did his purposeful father role quite effectively. His emotional conflict with Vijay is showcased nicely. On the other hand, Jayasudha did her part perfectly as a homemaker and as a mother to three children. Prakash Raj is alright in his negative shaded role. Other padding artists such as Ganesh Venkatraman and Prabhu are okay in their respective roles. Technical values : Coming to the director, Vamshi Paidipally, he has played a safe game by taking a formula-based story but he has made sure to place a few entertaining moments in places. But he could have been cautious about the length.

Vamshi has presented Vijay in a good manner though. Thaman’s songs were already big hits. The placement of the songs is done well. Thaman is once again at the top of his game when it comes to the soundtrack. The cinematography work by Karthik Palani is top-notch as he showcased the entire film on a lavish note. He captured the mood of the film nicely and presented artists beautifully on screen. The movie has excellent production quality. Since a wealthy business family is central to the plot, the spectator can expect to witness lavish residences, luxurious offices, and expensive attire.

The familial moments, especially scenes between Vijay and Jayasudha (who plays the mother) work somewhat in an otherwise largely predictable film. For the family drama angle to have worked even more effectively, the conflict between the brothers should’ve been even more stronger. One thing that the film does manage to get right is deliver exactly what the trailer promised. As a viewer if you had walked in with your expectations in place after watching the trailer, you won’t be disappointed.

Highlights : Vijay Performance Comedy & Emotional Scenes Rich Production values Cinematography Drawbacks : Routine Story

Predictable Narration Overall :

Watchable Family Drama.
