Tea was previously grown primarily in Asia, specifically in China. The most common type is Camellia sinensis, which has been known for its medicinal properties. People in China believe that Shennong invented tea, and that people began drinking it in the 10th century. Since then, various shades of black and green have spread throughout the world, originating in China. The following list explains why some of them are extremely expensive.

10 Tienchi Flower Tea

Tienchi is primarily a Chinese product and is known in laboratories as Panax Notoginseng, which means the beverages that cure. It is used to treat insomnia in China. The tea contains antioxidants that help your immune system become stronger. A pack of this refreshing tea now costs $170.

9 Silver Tips Imperial Tea

Silver Tips Imperial Tea is sold in India for around $400 per kilogramme. The tea is grown on specific farms and harvested on the full moon days of the month. The silver colour in the tea leaves gave rise to the tea's silver name.

8 Gyokuro Tea

Gyokuro literally translates to "jewellery dews" in Chinese. Before harvesting, the tea leaves should be kept out of the sun. The tea is grown in Uji, Japan, and then exported to various locations around the world. Even so, not everyone can afford the $650 price tag.

7 Poo Poo Pu-erh Tea

This tea's name is not a coincidence or a joke; the name says it all. The tea is made from the "poo poo" of various insects rather than the leaves of a specific plant. The insects are said to have lived their entire lives on tea, and people eat their residues, which are said to be made of tea components, and they find it delicious! This tea is made in the Chinese province of Yunnan and costs $1000!

6 Yellow Gold Buds Tea

Yellow Buds, which are grown primarily in Singapore, are harvested only once a year and sold only within Singapore. Because the tea is yellow because it is painted with gold, you would expect the price to be even higher. One kilogramme of Yellow Buds costs $3000.

5  Tieguanyin Tea

There is no colour or export here; it is all about quality. Tieguanyin is a tea that can be boiled several times and still retain its flavour and aroma. So a 3000 dollar investment could be justified. Tieguanyin's name is derived from one of the Buddhist gods, making it even more valuable.

4 Vintage Narcissus Tea

The Narcissus moniker was given to Wuyi Oolong Tea after an ancient Chinese myth. Throughout history, this rare tea was auctioned off to various people, but it eventually ended up in China, where it belongs. The last time it was auctioned, it fetched $6500 for only one kilogramme!

3 Panda Dung Tea

However unlike Poo Poo tea, this Panda Dung tea is not made from the Panda's dung. Instead, its dung is used as fertiliser for growing a particular type of tea, hence the name. The tea is very expensive, costing over 7000 dollars.

2 PG Tips Diamond Tea

The reason for the high price of PG tea is easily discovered. Why are the tea packets made of diamonds? It was designed primarily to raise funds for charities, but the concept proved so appealing to manufacturers that they continued to sell it for $13,000 per packet!

1 Da-Hong Pao Tea

The Da-Hong, which is made from a rare tree, is known for its curative properties that can save lives; as a result, the price tag has risen to one million dollars.
