Charles Sobharaj, whose full name is Charles Gurumukh Sobharaj Hotchand Bhavnani, was born in 1944 in Saigon, Vietnam to an Indian father and a Vietnamese mother. Having some family problems in his youth, he chose his future by engaging in petty theft and other crimes as a teenager. History has it that Shobharaj, handsome in appearance, was later given the status of a 'high class celebrity'.
Sobharaj was jailed for the first time in 1963 for theft. As a continuation of this, he later led a prosperous life in crime.
