Is Kaathuvaakula Rendu Kadhal Worth Watching?

Kaathuvaakula Rendu Kadhal, the latest romantic comedy by director Vignesh Shivan, is a total flop.  It gives virtually little exchange for the audience's willingness to overlook Vignesh's succession of errors in what appears to be a rushed film.

Anbarasu Ranjankudi Boopathy Murugesa Vijay Sethupathi's Oohoondhiran nicknamed Rambo (Vijay Sethupathi) is a womaniser.  Why? Because he's impoverised yet good-hearted, it's simple.  He isn't very charming, but he is kind.  Above all, he may battle to preserve women's honour and dignity.  He's the most cliched version of a mainstream hero, and if left alone, he won't withstand the real world conditions.

Rambo beleives he had been afflicted.  He's seen as a harbinger of misfortune.  In truth, his superpower is bad luck.  The couples are itching to go on a romantic bike trip, while the students are rushing to finish their examinations.  And it's impossible for these individuals to go about their business because it's pouring cats and dogs.  As a result, Rambo vows to take action and save the day.  The rain comes to a complete stop just by going outside and staring at the sky.  He's managed to hack into the cosmic awareness and alter it according to him whim.

It takes a lot of bravery to believe in this movie's idea.  Rambo discovers Kanmani Ganguly (Nayanthara) and Khatija Begum (Samantha Ruth Prabhu) ready to murder or be killed for his love after a few annoying twists and turns recounted through chaotically stitched sequences that lack any innovation, literary or humorous merit.  Both ladies seek Rambo's protection since they have no other choice.  Vignesh constructs a circumstance where Rambo is the only man living on the planet.  And these ladies succumb to the seduction.

What if Sumaar Moonji Kumar becomes so alluring that the most beautiful, strong and self- reliant females mindlessly dedicate themselves to his whims? Vignesh has concocted a completely thoughtless romantic comedy around this premise.  There isn't much else to say about this movie.

“Ona Kalyanam Panitan ena panitan (he wedded you and slept with me)” is a double entendre dialogue that has benn written to appeal to the lowest common denominator.  Or, as an allegory for marriage and sex, a clownish dispute about which is beteer between almonds and pistachios.

There are only a few scenes with mildly amusing humour.  And Redin Kingsley appears in those moments.  Particularly at the part where he criticises his captor's decision to waste gasoline on him.  Given the soaring price of fuel, it hits a chord.

Adult humour is subtly present in this film, which is a major turnoff.  By discreetly sexualizing the principal females, this film seeks to play into the crazy fantasies of a lovelorn guy.  It isn't, however, clean humour or a straight-up adult comedy.  It's a shambles.  Vignesh indecisiveness is the key factor.  He wants the film to be safe for individuals to view with their families.

Simultaneously, sprinkle it with just enough double meaning phrases and scenes for others to pick up on it.  It also aspires to be a cross between filmaker C.S. Amudhan's comedy film Thamizh Padam and Vignesh's 2015 smash Nanum Rowdy Dhaan.
