It is a soft white dessert made from fermented rice and wheat flour and then steamed. It is also widely eaten in countries like Malaysia, Singapore, Sri Lanka and Burma. Idli, which used to be made only at home, is now also produced on an industrial basis. Idli flour is also commercially available. Idli is usually eaten for breakfast. Chutney and Sambar are the curries eaten with Idli.

Idli can be prepared using purple cabbage which is rich in fiber which helps in digestive health and prevents constipation.
Idli and dosa are regular dishes in the kitchen.  Especially idli. This is because it is the easiest to prepare.  But it is natural to feel tired of idli every time you eat it.  No need to worry about not having time to prepare anything different for the children when the school is open.  Make the idli itself a bit healthier and colorful.  A little purple cabbage is enough for a colorful idli that anyone will love.  It is just as nutritious as the green cabbage used in the preparation of regular curry.  Purple Cabbage can also be said to be the cousin of our Indian Cabbage.  It is also called red cabbage in some places.  Although similar in taste to green cabbage, purple cabbage is nutrient-rich and full of plant compounds.  Contains antioxidants, especially anthocyanins.  This is what gives cabbage its purple color.  The dietary fiber in purple cabbage supports digestive health.  It prevents constipation.  Likewise, purple cabbage is a good source of vitamin K.  It is therefore essential for bone health.  The fiber, potassium, and anthocyanin in purple cabbage can lower blood pressure and the risk of heart disease.  Now try preparing idli like this.
