This battle highlights the Bravery and loyalty of soldiers towards their king.
To begin with the battle was fought between the Mughals and Maratha soldiers when the King of Marathas Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj was stuck in the fort panhala. Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj broke out the trap set up by Mughal emperor Siddhi Johar very skillfully.
Unfortunately, siddhi johar came to know about the Shivaji running out from his trap, so his army of Twenty Five thousand soldiers was sent behind Shivaji Raje to catch him alive or dead.
The goal of Shivaji Raje was to reach vishalgad , but the enemy was very close to them. The brave Sardar amongst the army Baji Prabhu Deshpande said I will take off the enemy and said raje to proceed to Vishal Gada. He promised that not even a single enemy would pass through this place named Pavan khind until he reaches fort successfully.
The rigorous battle started between Marathas and Mughals. The number of Maratha soldiers was only Five thousand and an army of Mughals was Twenty Five thousand. Maratha soldiers fought the battle in such a way that it just cannot be explained in words. Baji Prabhu Deshpande the leader of the Maratha army had two swords in his two hands the weight of each sword was around Ten kilograms. All the soldiers were flourished with the red color of their blood during battle. The battle was fought for continuously Eight hours.
The Maratha army was getting tough over the Mughal army. The Mughal emperor called a man with a rifle and asked him to shoot their leader Baji Prabhu Deshpande. He thought that if the leader collapses all the army would just run away. When the rifleman was ordered to shoot, he was confused about who is bajiroa as everyone was fighting like a leader. He asked the emperor who is baji, The emperor said the person colored more in red color is Baji. Again the shooter glanced and said everyone is in red color with their blood, Tell me who is Baji Prabhu Deshpande. The emperor seems confused and said the person with two swords in hand fighting is Baji. Then rifleman shot at baji Prabhu Deshpande in his chest but the brave warrior kept on fighting as the Raje have still not reached the vishalgad fort successfully.
It is said that after the battle was over the bodies of Maratha soldiers were not even found together in a single place. Their body parts were scattered all around the place.
This battle teaches everyone the lessons of confidence, loyalty, and a clear range of focus. Fighting to the army more than twice a size only for the king's survival really needs a true dedication towards the king. This according to me is the real unforgotten battle in the entire history of India.
