Once Upon A Rainy Season - Short Story

It was raining heavily that day.
Rivers and paths were flooded.
Mr. James was standing in his office, it was raining outside his window and he felt like a ton of bricks were hitting him. He had no umbrella and could not even see the rain all around.
Suddenly he got a phone call.
It was an emergency call. The man who called him seemed to be suffocating. They said they needed help and asked someone to come and pick them up. After this the phone became inactive.
He did not know why, but when he heard his name he remembered nothing of the man he had met last night and of the letter he had given him. His eyes wandered to the corner of the table where the cover rested, untouched from that night. That is all that is left of him now.
A sudden guilt struck him, and he felt the need to ask more about the man.
But he could not.
He took a step back to his desk, desperate to reach out and hold on to the note.
He went over to it and took the cover.
At that moment he saw a figure standing in front of his office door.
He quickly closed the cover and put it in his drawer. As if he knew the man would come anytime, he stood up and gave her his best smile.
He opened the door. "What can I do for you?"
"Is this room safe?" The man asked.
He was Mr. Steve who was there for a meeting.
"Can I go to your conference room?"
"of course." He pointed to the nearest elevator. "Go right through that glass door and turn left." Steve shook his head and started walking towards the elevator. When he got on the elevator, he pressed the floor button and leaned against the wall while waiting. The doors opened, indicating that the elevator was about to reach the intended room.
He came out and immediately saw Steve standing near the door.
He waved at him and went straight to the door to the conference room.
Steve knocked on the door three times, and a moment later it opened. He entered.
There are two people sitting in front of the big round table. The two seemed familiar to Steve. It was an interview meeting. The meeting will begin in a few minutes.
When they saw him coming in, they both stood up and shook his hand.
One of them was as tall as Steve. He had brown hair and green eyes. His face felt kind enough and welcoming. Steve liked him instantly.
Another was shorter and shorter than the other. His skin color was dark, with black hair and brown eyes. He laughed when they introduced themselves.
They talked for a long time.
Most of the conversations were with Steve. The questions were mostly to him. It was to select a new manager for Stark Company.
When Steve answered the questions, he found it difficult to maintain his complexion. He wanted to tell them everything. About how his family abandoned him when he was just 16, and became a professional photographer who traveled around the world to capture images of various celebrities and their lifestyles.
Shortly afterwards, he left the conference room, apologizing for having a job.
James stopped him in his office and told him about the conversation, except for parts of the incident that happened when he was young.
He did not want to upset the man.
After work, he drank a cup of coffee and returned home.
The whole trip was about thinking about what the interview would be like.
No wonder his phone rang. He was selected as the new manager.
After that he tried to calm down for a while. From the first moment he heard their voices, he was nervous about the interview. But now, everything is over.
It may be because they are different people or someone else has already been hired by the company, but he was thrilled when he finally learned that he would be the manager of Stark Industries.
Went home and went straight to the bedroom. He changed his pajamas and went to bed.
He looked at the roof for a while, trying to recover.
He closed his eyes and tried to sleep.
He woke up to the sound of the alarm clock.
He switched it off and went back to bed and lay down again.
This time he decided to try to sleep without looking at the ceiling.
He slipped into a dreamless sleep.
James walks around the living room watching television. He is holding a cup of tea.
Where or something catches his attention, he looks at it. It was an old cover. It was his dismissal letter.
He was no longer the manager of the Stark Company. Steve is the new manager.
James was fired for failing to comply with the order.
It was all clearly written on paper.
He walked slowly to stay away from the sharp objects lying around.
He looks at the contents of the letter, before putting it in his pocket.
There is another thing he notices; The paper looks damp. Not just water droplets, but blood. James' emergency call may also have been to save the person who wrote the letter.
