Some Cultural Animal Sports In India.

India is seventh largest country in the world and the home to the Indus Valley Civilization and a place of historic trade routes and great empires. India has a rich and diverse culture which are spread  from Kashmir to kanyakumari.

 So, today I am here to share my knowledge about different animal’s sports in india which is part of Indian culture.

1.    JALLIKATTU – Jallikattu is very similar to bulls fighting in Spain. In Jallikattu many people try to control the bull at the same time.   

·       The term Jallikattu is derived from tamil words where ‘jalli' means gold or silver coins and ‘kattu' means tied.

·       Jallikattu is not only harmful for people but also harmful to the bulls.

·       It is the top disputed Animal sports in India.Many deaths have happened due to Jallikattu during pongal festival in Tamil Nadu.

·       Due to ban on Jallikattu by supreme Court ,In 2017 the state government enacted a law and amended the prevention of cruelty to animals Act,1960 to preserve the culture heritage of the state and to  ensure the wellbeing and  survival of the native bulls  breeds and give permit to perform Jallikattu events .    

2. KAMBALA- it is traditional slush- track buffalo race which is held in coastal karnataka and Not karola between November to March. 

·       Initially, it was just getting the slushy Paddy fields ready for sowing And the running buffaloes used to  crunched the soil. At that time Kambala was not competitive event , it was just buffalo pairs  raced one after another in Paddy fields.

·       But nowadays, Kambala is all about the race and win the beautiful price.

·       The racers try to bring the buffaloes under control by holding their reins tight and whipping them.

        Dispute- Many animal activists criticize the sport and argue that the kambala Involves acts of cruelty on animals which are not physically suited for racing and they run in the race due to fear of being beaten.     

3.   COCK FIGHT- A cock fight is a blood sport between 2 roosters or Gamecocks,  held in a ring called cockpit.

·       These birds are specially breed for the matches.

·       They are sometimes attached with metal knives  Tide to the leg in the area where the birds natural spurt has been partially removed.

·       This court fight event are popular in under Pradesh during the festival of Sankranti.   

4.     CAMEL RACE- Camel race during the pushkar fair. Attract the most crowd and when you get a cash price from the government of Rajasthan.    

·       The camels are trained to emerge as winners.

·       Interestingly there’s also a camel beauty contest .

5. BULBUL FIGHT- Every Makar sankranti, which coinsides with Assam harvest festival  bihu , Bulul fights are organized in the Hayagriva- Madhava temple in haji, guwahati. People of villages catch bulbul checks and rare them for a few weeks before they are taken to the temple premises on Makar Sankranti.
