HISTORY:
As the story goes back, when Lord brahma was requested by the Gods to create a pastime, he combined certain aspects of 4 Vedas and created a 5 th Veda known as NATYA VEDA.
· According to NATYA SHASTRA, there are 2 basic aspects in Indian classical dance form.
1. LASYA- It is symbolic of feminine features in dance art form.
2. TANDAVA- it is symbolic of Male aspects.
1.BHARATNATYAM
· Bharatnatyam is associated from Tamil Nadu state.
· Bharatnatyam is a mixture of 3 words:-
1. BHA – bhava( expression)
2. RA- Raga( music)
3. TA – Tala ( rhythm) and Natyam means Dance.
· It is the oldest dance form.
· ORIGIN- The origin of this dance form ”Sadir” which means a solo dance performance Of the temple dancers in Tamil Nadu.
· It also refers as “ Dasiattam" and Fire dance.
· The dance accompanied with Carnatic music.
2.KUCHIPUDI
· Kuchipudi Dance is associated from Andra Pradesh .
· ORIGIN- It originates through (kusselavas)- A group of actors who originally performed this dance going from village to village.
· After the rise of “ Vaishnavism" – The dance form become a monopoly of the male Brahmins.
· The story of dance are based on Bhagwata Puran.
3.KATHAKALI
· Kathakali Associated from kerala.
· ORIGIN- In the temple of kerala, 2 forms of dance- drama evolved under the patronage of federal, Narrating episode from Ramayana and Mahabharata. These two folk drama traditions later become the source of kathakali.
· Katha means – story and kali means- drama.
· Kathakali Is remarkable in the representation of the'RASA' Through movements of eyes and eyebrows.
· Elaborate facial makeup and costume with headgear.
4. MOHINIATTAM
· This dance form is associated from kerala.
· Mohiniattam is this solo dance performance by a beautiful woman.
· Mohini attam combines the grace of bharatnatyam with vigour of kathakali
· Costume- A white saree or off white with Golden brocade.
5.ODISSI
· Odissi Dance is associated from odisha.
· The important feature in this dance form is TRIBANG posture (Three banded form of body).
· It is similar to bharatnatyam in use of Mudras and Postures to express emotions.
6.MANIPURI
· Manipuri Dance is associated from Manipur.
· The team of manipuri dance is “Rasleela" ( krishna-radha love).
· In modern times, Rabindra Nath Tagore revived by introducing it in ‘ Shantiniketan'.
7.KATHAK
· Kathak Dance is associated from North India( UP / Bihar ).
· During the Mughal era the dance form degenerated in to lascivious dance form and branched off in to court dance.
· It was also influenced by Persian costume and dancing style.
The kathak is accompanied with dhrupad music.
8SATTRIYA
· Sattriya Dance form is associated from Assam.
· Its focus on devotional aspect and narrates might ological stories of vishnu.
· Dance performed by group of Mail monks.
· Hand gestures and footwork both there.
