Recently ,there was a news that the SAMBHAR LAKE Is witnessing the mass dying of Fauna Including birds, And illegal salt mining taking place in the india's largest salt water lake.

SAMBHAR LAKE is the India’s largest saltwater lake in Rajasthan and it is a source of salt production.

· This lake represent the depression of the Aravalli range.

· The vegetation which are present in Sambhar lake is mostly Xerophytic type. It is a type in which plant adapted for growth under dry conditions.

·SAMBHAR Lake has a status of a “Ramsar site Which was given in 1990.

·So basically, “Ramsar site" Is a wetland site which are designated to an international important under the ramsar convention which was signed in Iran city Ramsar. It provides international assistance and national action on conservation of wetlands and sustainable use of their resources.

·    SAMBHAR Lake is also in “important bird area” Due to generally visited by many migratory birds like Flamingo , avifaunal and waterfowl.

Due to lack of water “Sambhar lake “ shrink its wetland because seasonal rivers Are mostly used by the farmers and also the fact that these farmers had built surface embankments Across rivers.

Now, There are six rivers that flows close to the Sambhar lake are:   1.Samaod river

2. Khari river

3. Mantha river

4. Khandela river

5.  Medtha river

6.  Roopangarli river

·   So, these rivers which are mostly seasonal rivers around Sambhar lake are not able to drain Up there water into the lake because farmers have been surface embankments across rivers and they also built tubewells and pipelines across the field and this choke the rivers and dries the wetland ecosystem.

· And this lack of water further led to lessening Of the migratory birds flowing into the Sambhar lake Area.

· Another problem with respect of Sambhar Lake, is that the government come up with the tended Heritage resort which was further destroying the ecosystem.

So, all these steps along with the illegal salt mining Taking place in the Sambhar lake Has resulted in a slow death of the Sambhar Lake ecosystem, wetland which has been recognized as a “ Ramsar site".

So the illegal salt production in the lake has to be stop through action against unauthorized pipelines and tubewells which laid in the region Or encroachments on the land should be removed with the help of police.
