We all know that poetry is the spontaneous overflow of emotions. It is the essence of a soul that is churned out as poetry. But not many people are into this form of expression of art. Most of us may have only read poetry from our good old English textbooks. Is it true that anyone can be interested in poetry and can anyone even try a hand at it?

The answer is yes. Not all poetry is accepted but anyone can understand and write poetry. There is no fixed standard of writing poetry, and I believe that all the nuances are simply the result of analysing poems. So there really is no need to worry about adding similes, metaphors or alliterations and other poetic devices. If you have a knowledge of them, well and good.Even otherwise, you are just as good to go.

First of all, you must draw inspiration from the world around you. Look around and become alive in the moment you are living in and think of nature, of people, of objects, of relations, situations- basically anything that could trigger art inside your heart. Now capture that ecstasy in words and your poem is ready. There are thousands of poems out there and none of them might look like yours but none of them have  to look like yours. Your poem is one addition to the vast ocean of poems. There are different types of poems and those classifications are based on the format and structure of your poem. Nothing you should bother about.

When you look at your poem, do not feel that it is unworthy of attention. Your poem is yours and it is a creation like any other. Poem is basically just words arranged into pretty stanzas. As is the case with any piece of art, ideas, creativity and style of presentation determines the artistic quality of a poem. So, henceforth, never think twice about writing that poem you had on your mind for the fear of being judged by people who might not even have appreciated the beauty of poetry. You can even start by reading and understanding poems from well-known poets before you start, just to get the hang of things. Then practice and eventually you would have nailed poetry quite easily. Understanding poetry is a separate affair on its own. A poem can be interpreted in multiple ways. You can understand a poem on your own terms. 

All poems  are unique, and that's what adds to the allure of poetry. It is essentially the art of soul where you show yourself as you truly are.
